Summary
Something isn’t right.
Tony had known it from the first moment that Peter stepped off the plane. He saw it in the dark rings under his kid’s eyes, the strain in his forced smile, the tension in his shoulders. He sees it now, in the flinching at sudden movements and hours spent locked away in his room. Parents know these things, which is a phenomenon he thought was a lie until Peter came into his life.
Nothing has been the same since Europe. Tony knew that the after-effects of Beck would be long-lasting, probably giving the kid a bad case of trust issues that wouldn’t go away for the rest of his life, but this is different. This isn’t just the pain of betrayal. There’s something more; something Peter won’t tell him.
Something is seriously wrong with Tony’s kid, and he has every intention of figuring out what it is and fixing it.

Far from it, in fact.
(With great power comes great responsibility, Peter.)
So when the building collapses, when the dilapidated remains of metal and concrete, and later searing scraps of plane, fall around him? Well, this is practically nothing.
Practically.
He’s fine, really. It just gets a little hard to breathe sometimes. Like, when he follows Happy into Stark Tower through the parking garage. Or when he turns on the news while doing homework and sees reports of a plane crash.
And sure, the small fire that broke out in the chemistry lab had sent his heart racing and caused sweat to bead on the back of his neck until even Ned asked if he was okay, but it’s nothing to worry about.
Regardless, he knows where those come from.
But this?

Not a blip. No extravagant rescue, no confirmation that help is on the way.
No Tony.
Sure, he supposes the famous superhero has more important matters to attend to than rescuing his protégée from a couple of kidnappers. But still… rude. Peter kind of thought he’d be a higher priority.
And yeah, he’s almost an adult— he shouldn’t need rescuing, and he is definitely more than capable of taking a few (
dozen) punches and some mediocre torture.Peter’s just getting a bit tired, is all.

Summary
Tony had been out of the country for weeks on SI business, and Peter was having a hard time. He missed him, plain and simple.
Okay. Maybe not so plain and simple.
Peter had a rough time in the weeks and months that followed the final defeat of Thanos in the ruins of the Compound. Thrust back into life, only to be forced to fight for the lives of the entire universe for the second time at only sixteen-years-old, and then to be told that his last living relative died in a crash during his five year absence did wonders for his psyche.
He developed a nasty form of separation anxiety toward his mentor-turned-adoptive-father -- not that Tony fared much better himself -- and his therapist had said it was a side effect of PTSD and that it would get better over time.
OR
A small field trip fic to SI where Tony has been out of the country for a few weeks, and Peter isn't handling it well.

The moment Mr. Harrington stepped further into the classroom, revealing the figure standing behind him, Peter was pretty sure that he had stepped into an alternate reality. That, or someone was playing a nasty joke on him.
The person standing directly behind his teacher, waving cheerfully at the decathlon team, was dressed in a replica of the second gen Spiderman suit. It was about as close as one could get from referencing pictures and videos, and they guy was a similar enough build that Peter could see how people would be fooled.
A frightening thought struck him that he might be fooled too if he wasn’t actually Spiderman.
