And there it was again. That one talk about the importance of work and how they were making history. Dan could feel his thoughts drifting off to the many times when the very same conversation occurred, that strong sense of deja vu threatening to breach his mind and give him another headache.
“You’re jealous.” He finally said. That broke Herbert out of his long monologue.
“What?”
“You were jealous.”

The first time Dan easily brushed it off as a one time incident, the second time it was becoming just a little annoying, by the fifth time Dan finally confronted his roommate about his habit of getting in the way of his dates, and he never would've guessed what came out of it.

Hating on someone’s happiness was one thing, but interfering with that person’s relationship was what it takes to wreck one’s reputation through and through. Plus, Jeff had seen enough romcoms back in the days to know that trying to change someone’s ways of expressing themself never worked as planned, but looking at their friend right now, Jeff would have to admit that maybe Annie wasn't exaggerating about the problem.

Rufus did tend to leave gifts of similar nature on Dan’s doorstep, and once, just once, on his pillow. Mercifully, Meg didn’t wake up to the sight back then. Dan can’t blame him, really. He needed to be praised, so proud of his accomplishments and so thoughtful, willing to share the prey with his helpless human who couldn’t catch anything.
Now West is demanding his attention, though, and there’s a similar pride in his movements as he opens the cupboard Dan didn’t think to open.
“Fuck,” is all Dan can say at first. Then, “Jesus. Fuck.”
