Summary
“When I was little, maybe six or seven, I remember my mom saying that she ‘had to live with a reminder of her loss, staring her in the face every day.’ That’s all I ever was to them. Their grief was a cage, a gilded one, but still. And they locked me and Maddie in there with them. Maybe, doing this, asking them to sign away any claim they have to me? It-it sets them free, sets us all free.”
Bobby’s not thrilled about the metaphor, and even less thrilled about the anecdote.
Stories like that remind Bobby why simply telling the whole truth – that Bobby and Athena were pursuing an adult adoption of Buck – is out of the question. Margaret and Phillip are manipulative at best, abusive at worst; and their reaction to such an announcement would be wholly unpredictable. Keeping the adoption out of things is the best course of action, Bobby knows that. But God does he want to rub it in their faces that, for the rest of his life, he gets to be Buck’s dad and claim him as his son.

Summary
Eddie and Chris had moved back to LA, back to their home (a home that, much to Eddie’s delight, belongs to Buck too), and everything has started to feel right again. With this newfound peace, Eddie has decided to really take that hot priest’s juice analogy to heart. And through his journey to joy, he’s realized two very important things:
He is definitely gay.
He is in love with his best friend/current roommateThe only other person besides Eddie who knows is Chris, who has given his approval and agreed to keep it a secret. He still hasn’t told Buck because he knows that if he tells him he’s gay, he’ll probably blurt out that he’s head over heels in love with him, too. And Eddie doesn’t know how Buck feels—and the fear of ruining the precious relationship they already have has made it an incredibly difficult topic to bring up.
So that’s how Eddie has come to find his new favorite pastime—daydreaming about the beautiful future he’s imagined for Buck and himself.
Or, Eddie accidentally tells Buck he has been imagining their future children and acts super normal about it. Buck makes a lasagna.

Summary
“Hey Buck,” he whispers, and Eddie has to choke back a sob. “It’s me. It’s Christopher.”
He’s silent for a few moments, and steady beeping from the monitors fill the room.
“I—um, I came back,” Chris continues. “I know you said that I don’t have to be sorry for leaving, but I still am.
“I was just so mad… and scared and I thought that leaving would make me feel better. But the whole time I was gone, especially before I started talking to Dad, the only thing that made me feel better was talking to you.”
Chris lets out a choked sob, and Eddie instinctively lunges forward to comfort him. A hand on his wrist stops him. He looks over and sees Maddie watching him with a careful look. She shakes her head, and he understands. This is between Buck and Chris, and he needs to do this. Chris knows that he’s here if he needs him.
“I came back, Buck,” Chris says, and Eddie notices, not for the first time, how in Chris’ mouth Buck sounds like Dad. “So now you need to come back, too.”or, in the aftermath of Buck's accident, his family comes together. Chris finds his way home and things get better, and then worse, and then Buck finds his way home too.

Summary
“You are hard to find.” Buck startled and turned to look at Christopher Diaz with wide eyes.
“What the fuck?! Oh my god, tell me you didn’t buy a bus or train ticket here without telling your dad?” Buck pleaded, looking around to see if he could find Eddie. “This is way different than you just booking an Uber across the city, Chris.”
“I almost did.” Chris laughed happily. “But dad caught me and we had a long talk.”
“Hey Chris.” Ravi said, looking at Buck nervously. “Uh, what are you doing here?”
“Hopefully fixing my family since dad was too emotionally constipated to just use his words before Buck left.” Chris retorted, making him laugh. Albert looked amused, too.
“Buck?” Buck looked and saw Eddie on the small stage that was set up for when they were going to crown reunion king and queen. “Uh, Evan Buckley?”
“Oh my god.” Buck whispered, but when he tried to turn to leave, Ravi, Albert, and even Terry and her wife appeared and dragged him to the front with Chris following along.

Summary
“You looked like you wanted to hit that guy,” Buck utters breathlessly, his hand tightening on Eddie’s shoulder. Eddie brings one hand up to cup Buck’s elbow and if this goes south (in a bad way) Eddie will blame the alcohol.
“I did want to hit that guy,” Eddie breathes and with that statement Buck pushes Eddie back against the fridge and crushes their lips together, sliding the hand the hand he has on Eddie’s shoulder around to the back of his neck. The bottles of water fall to the floor, rolling away under a nearby shelf. Buck’s other hand is braced against the fridge door, which is cold through the thin fabric of Eddie’s shirt.

Summary
As soon as Robby entered the ER he could tell *something* was wrong. No one wanted to look him in the eye and upon searching around he couldn’t find his favorite little rat killer either. Usually Whitaker was the first person to greet him in the morning, almost as if he hovered around central just waiting for Robby to make his way into the building. Which had been a point of teasing more than once from the rest of the crew. It wasn’t as if the two of them were really a *secret* at this point, but no one really talked about it either.

Mrs. Young smiled. “As teachers, we don't get to sit down and talk one on one with each child as much as they deserve. This assignment always grants me a beautiful insight to my students. Their proudest accomplishments, their darkest moments, or even some facts I've never known.”
She lifted a hand to her heart. “So with that, I would like all of you hear from one of the most beautiful essays I've had the pleasure of reading, from one of the-” she sighed. “-funniest kids I've met. Please welcome Christopher Diaz.”
...Christopher smiled into the microphone. "My name is Christopher Diaz. Here's my essay."
"Dear abandoning dead Mom."
The silence from the audience was deafening.
"Oh god." Eddie whispered beside him.

Buck does cute things, and he doesn’t know if anyone else has noticed, but Eddie has and it’s driving him insane. He feels insane watching him. They’re habits, ingrained into the man’s brain so deeply that he doesn’t even think that Buck himself realizes he’s doing it.

Summary
A flashlight beam cut through the dark and landed on him. Athena’s silhouette filled the bridge as she moved closer, uniform neat against the night. She didn’t shout or hurry; she simply walked with the steady confidence of someone who’d learned how to hold a space when everything else was falling apart.
“Sir,” she said, voice low and even. “Step away from the ledge.”
Buck barely turned his head. The motion was small, almost apologetic — enough to take the wind from her and make the beam of light tremble across his face. He looked small there, thinner than she remembered, like something had hollowed him out.
“Athena.” His voice was a scrape. It held no fight, only the tiredness of someone who’d been carrying too much for too long.
