“There was all this...stuff around me. Ice. Fire. Water.” Katara frowned slightly. “Air, too, I think. It didn’t make sense, but it felt like it should.” Her voice softened. “And there was this person. They were trying to reach me. And I was trying to reach them.” She swallowed. “But I couldn’t. Something kept...getting in the way. I woke up crying,” she finished quietly, like she was admitting something she didn’t fully understand herself. “I know it sounds-”
“Does it happen often?”
She blinked. “What?”
“The dreams.”
Katara hesitated. “No. Just...recently.”
Zuko nodded once, like that confirmed something. “Would you believe me,” he said, “if I told you that I have dreams like that too?”

"No," Castorice said firmly, trying to summon the haughty certainty expected of a Duke's daughter. Her posture was impeccable, chin high, voice clear, but her fingers were twisted together in her lap, betraying her nerves.
"Come now, cousin," Phainon said, tilting his head. "One evening. One tavern. One mug of something vaguely questionable. It’ll do you good. Look, no one's going to recognize you. We have cloaks, plain dresses, simple shoes. You'll look just like any other lass off for a drink."
Stelle gave a small shrug. "It’s just a tavern, my lady. Not a battlefield."
"I’m not sure which I’d prefer," Castorice murmured, but she stood. "Alright, fine. But if I so much as smell vomit, I’m leaving."

“What do you mean ‘who’? You know who I’m talking about!”
“Awoo!”
“…Phainon,” Stelle replied, almost shyly.
The lantern in his hand slipped. He fumbled desperately, catching it by the handle at the last second before it shattered against the cobblestones. His heart, unfortunately, was already in pieces.
'She’s talking about me?'
He pressed himself back against the wall, as though it might swallow him whole.
'Pull yourself together, Phainon of Aedes Elysiae. Eavesdropping is dishonorable. Disrespectful. Utterly beneath you…'
He kept listening.

Summary
Home was close, close enough that he should have felt you.
He had memorized all of it; your heartbeat in the quiet, your soft steps, the subtle rhythm of your breath. Even from afar, his Mindsight reached for you like a hand extended into familiar darkness.
Tonight, he felt nothing.
The Rinascita incident had demanded more than expected, and his pursuit of Scar stretched each hour into something abrasive.
He had left you behind to stay safe. But what if safety was an illusion? What if someone had found this place?
What if someone had found *you*?

Summary
Phainon’s feathers fluffed. “Teacher, I…I require advice. For…courting.”
Aglaea’s grin was immediate and sharp. “Well then, it’s simple. Weave her something. A silken gift, spun from your very hands. Nets, webs, wrappings; the symbolism is obvious. Binding, devotion, protection. She’ll swoon.”
“Ridiculous,” Anaxagoras interrupted, tail lashing the stone with a crack. His slit-pupiled eye fixed on Phainon with intensity. “If you want to prove loyalty, you offer something irreplaceable. For my kind, the eye is sacred. To give it is to give yourself entirely. Nothing less will do.”
Phainon paled several shades, wings drooping. “...My eye?”

Summary
The rhythm of childhood in Aedes Elysiae wasn’t marked by calendars or clocks, but by seasons.
There was the season when the poppy flowers bloomed, the season of itchy grass and honeyed winds. There was the season of thunderstorms, where children leapt barefoot through puddles until they were dragged home shivering and scolded. And then there was the season of harvest, warm, golden, heavy with the smell of crushed grain and drying hay.
Time in the village didn’t move in lines; it moved in circles.
And within those circles, Phainon and Stelle spun together.

Summary
“You should not remain long,” he said at last, the words sounding more like an attempt at conversation than a command. “The realm of silence is no home for a goddess of renewal. Life cannot take root here.”
Lauma lowered her eyes briefly, watching the faint glow of the river below them. “And yet it feels...alive.” She lifted her head again, curiosity flickering across her expression. “Your quiet is not absence, Lord Kyryll, it is another kind of breath.”
He regarded her for a moment that seemed to bend time. Then, with the smallest nod, he extended a hand, formal and immaculate.
“Then let the Silent Realm greet its first guest.”

Summary
“I thought pretending to be you would be…boring. But this?” He let out a dark, amused breath. “This is exquisite. She smiles at me like she’s waited her whole life. She looks at me like I’m some tragic prince. You built the dream, dear boy, and I get to live it.”
Phainon roared inside his own mind. “You won’t lay a hand on her again. You hear me? I’ll kill you with my own damn spine if you so much as breathe near her wrong–”
“Oh, spare me the martyrdom. You had her within reach. All those late nights, all those chances. And you…you froze. Always so noble. So scared.” Irontomb’s voice turned mocking. "‘She deserves better,’ right? Well, now she’s getting what she wants.”
“You…?” Phainon’s voice was jagged, shaking. “You’re a monster.”
“And you’re a coward in love,” Irontomb snapped, tone turning cruel. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep her warm at night. I’ll use your hands to hold her, your mouth to tell her every soft thing she aches to hear. And when she finally moans your name – oh, forgive me – our name into the dark?” He laughed. “You’ll feel it.”

Summary
The man hesitated. “And her?”
He looked down again. The girl didn’t move; her lilac hair trailed over his armor, now streaked with ash.
He spoke flatly. “She’s coming with us.”
Mydeimos descended the temple steps, the sky behind him turning black with smoke, but he didn’t glance back.
The city had fallen, and whatever this woman was – oracle, priestess, symbol – he would decide what became of her.
She would live. If only to witness what her peace had cost.

Summary
For as long as he could remember – and Flame Reaver’s memory stretched across cycles beyond counting – the numbers on his wrist had never moved.
0:00.
In the stillness of burned fields and crumbling ruins, he would catch himself glancing at his wrist and the mark he had long ago sworn to ignore.
Was it mercy or cruelty, he wondered, to be born with a timer that would never move? To carry a promise carved into the flesh only to have the universe deny it?
So he continued forward, unchanging. A lone figure amid ash and shadow, walking paths no one else could follow. His only companions were the crackle of fire and the whisper of memory, a journey defined not by who might walk beside him, but by the endless emptiness of who never would.
And always, at the edge of vision, his wrist remained. Frozen, mocking, eternal.
0:00.

The first thing Stelle did on her first day at the university archive was ruin everything.
“Are…” Stelle stammered. “Are you Phainon? The archivist?”
“You’re bleeding,” he said flatly, stopping just short of her.
“I know,” she said, clutching her hand. “I didn’t do it on purpose!”
“That’s a third-edition illustrated chronicle of Solon of Athens’ Law. Only twelve copies exist.” He paused. “Or did. Yours may now be classified as evidence. Follow me. You need to disinfect that.”
She blinked. “You’re not going to murder me?”
“I haven’t ruled it out.”

Summary
Castorice stood across the gravesite, her face pale but composed, framed by the same fire that had once driven him to madness and devotion in equal measure. Her eyes were fixed on the casket, but her hand rested lightly on the shoulder of a child.
A girl.
Small, maybe five or six, clutching a worn stuffed rabbit to her chest, her other hand tucked into Castorice’s gloved fingers. She had auburn-blonde curls escaping from a velvet ribbon, and when she turned to press into her mother’s side, Mydeimos felt the world tilt.
The child’s eyes were unmistakable; warm golden, almond-shaped, framed by reddish lashes.
His eyes.

Hyacine tilted her head with a mischievous sparkle. “Let’s just say…you two radiate the emotional energy of a very, very intense slow burn.”
Tribbios gave a sage nod. “Enemies to lovers. But without the enemies part. So, like, sleep-deprived idiots to lovers.”
“Alright, alright, leave the slow-burners alone,” Castorice sighed dramatically. “Let them have their moonlit moment.”“Speaking of,” Hyacine said with a not-so-subtle wink, “you should probably walk her home. You know, for recovery.”
“Magical support,” Mydeimos added with a smirk.
Phainon stood, offering Stelle a hand. “Your magical support has arrived.”
She rolled her eyes but took it, heart skipping as their fingers locked.

Cold steel snapped around his wrist. Phainon blinked as one end of the handcuffs was locked to the rack behind him, the other dangling uselessly from his now-free hand.
He stared. “You!”
She stepped back, flipping the data chip between her fingers like a coin. “You make this too fun, Khaslana. You looked good tonight, by the way. I like this coat.” She turned, hand already on the door.
“Stelle,” he called. “You know I’m going to catch you eventually.”
She smiled like the devil. “Then I’ll just have to keep making it worth your while.”

"Okay," March declared, pointing a glossy pink fingernail in Stelle’s direction, "it’s been six months. Six! Since you even flirted with someone. I think we can all agree that qualifies as a romantic drought of catastrophic proportions."
Hyacine, draped elegantly across the couch like a silk scarf with legs, raised a perfectly sculpted brow. “It’s not a drought, dear. It’s an extinction event.”
Stelle, unimpressed, reached for a chocolate-covered pretzel. “Whatever you're thinking, no thanks.”
Castorice, ever the gentle voice of reason, offered a smile as she poured herbal tea into delicate mugs. “Look, not everyone’s in the mood for romance all the time. But if you are, even a little, there’s no harm in exploring.”
March seized the moment with all the subtlety of a fireworks display. “Exactly! Which is why you’re joining the new hit dating app, StarFlare!”

Phainon must have noticed the shift in his demeanor because he let out a soft, amused chuckle. “Ah, so that’s what finally gets your attention.”
Stelle turned toward Mydei with a curious glance. “You know her?”
“Of course he does,” Phainon said smoothly, leaning forward, resting his chin against his knuckles. “She’s been at his side since they were children. Funny, though, I don’t recall her mentioning that she’d be participating in this particular event.”
Phainon smirked, his voice laced with mischief. “Now, Mydei, you wouldn’t be worried about her, would you?”

Castorice pressed her fingers to her temple.
Aglaea continued calmly, “Our concern is balance. War cannot eclipse the other divine domains indefinitely without consequences.”
Mydeimos shrugged. “Then perhaps Death should speed up processing. Or expand. Open a second branch.”
Castorice’s hands twitched. “You did not just suggest franchising the Underworld.”
“Why not? Call it ‘Death 2: Soul Harder.’”

Hyacine tilted her head. “We need to get her to notice it’s flirting. Subtle’s not working.”
“You think?” Mydei grumbled.
“Okay,” Phainon clapped his hands together. “New plan. Next time? You ride up shirtless, carrying a bouquet of red roses and blasting power ballads.”
Stelle frowned. “That’s awful.”
“I never said it was a good plan.”
Mydei shook his head. “I’m doomed.”
Stelle patted him on the back. “Yep. But in a really cute way.”

Summary
Mydei wanted to say more, he wanted to tell her that he’d thought about kissing her that night they watched the fireworks by the lake, that he’d drawn a little heart around her name on the side of his notebook, but his chest was too tight. Instead, he blurted, “One day, we’ll meet again. You’ll see.”
She smiled, but it wobbled. “Yeah. One day.”
As she turned, he panicked. The car door was open, she was getting in, she was really going.
“Castorice!” he shouted.
She froze, half-in the car, turning to look back at him.
“We’ll be together again someday!” he yelled. “Okay? No matter what!”
