    Summary

The devil Strahd has been slain, and the mists choking off Barovia have lifted, but all is not well…

Ismark Kolyanovich once dreamed of sunny days alongside his best friend, the preacher's boy, Doru. But since Doru was turned into a vampire spawn, he’s been confined to the church’s undercroft, where he's sentenced to a life in the dark. Seeking a cure, Ismark journeys to Castle Ravenloft to meet its new owner, only to discover an eccentric cleric with big plans to rebuild Barovia and make it a home for all things living and undead.

Doru pushes to very edge of his chains. He’s inches away from Ismark now, and Ismark can smell every day of imprisonment on him: his soiled clothes, his oily, matted hair, the mud crusted on his skin, the blood of vermin on his breath.

“Do it,” Doru begs. “Let me rest. For all the love you’ve ever held for me.”

Ismark holds the stake out, aiming its jagged toothy end at the center of Doru’s chest, right above where his cold, dead heart lies asleep behind a protruding rib cage.

    Summary

"Hello? Ed, is that you? What's all that noise? What's going on?"

"Wayne, can you come pick me up ... I’m at a party at the Harringtons’ house ... I don't wanna talk about it, man … Can you please just come get me? Please."

Eddie hangs up the phone and swallows down the lump in his throat.

He refuses to cry in Steve Harrington's kitchen.

    Summary

"Sounds like a blast," Steve says. "I'm glad you have some friends out there, though."

"Yeah, well, for me-" Jonathan swallows, "high school's been a bit less brutal over here than in Hawkins."

Steve merely hums, because he's pretty sure that all of that is his fault. He waits for another minute to pass. "It was nice talking to you, Jonathan," he says honestly, in hopes that they can finally be friends.

    ---

When Jonathan accidentally calls Steve instead of Nancy, he doesn't quite expect it to spark a brand-new friendship. But, nonetheless, he's soon to find him and Steve growing into much closer friends, and made even something more.

    Summary

    “This okay?”

“Yeah it’s— shit, it’s more than okay, Steve.”

    “… you’re crying, Eds.”

Eddie can’t hold back a choked off noise then, somewhere between an overwhelmed laugh and a sob.

“No one’s ever done this to me before.”

He doesn’t know if he means no one’s ever given him a bath, or braided his hair, or just any of the things Steve does for him, really.

Eddie's never had a Steve before.

    Summary

"First rule of this house, son," said Wayne and smiled at Eddie, actually smiled, although his facial muscles protested. "Ain't no such thing as stupid questions. Anything you want to ask, just ask. And if I know the answer, I will give it. Understood?"

Or: Wayne and Eddie often ask the most ridiculous questions. But (almost) none of them are stupid.
