Summary
“Yeah, walk away, Lightning.” Even with his back turned, he could hear the smirk on Thompson’s face. “Just like your old man did back in ‘54. The coward didn’t even try to put up a fight.”
Lightning caught Bobby’s narrowed glare out of the corner of his eye. The nod his friend gave was almost imperceptible. His words, however, rang out loud and clear. “Get him.”
That was all the permission Lightning needed.
Pushed to the limit, Lightning comes to blows with another racer during a rain delay.

Summary
“It’s okay to miss the ones you love,” Doc continued. “You know that, right?”
Though Lightning nodded, Doc was having a hard time believing him.
“If she was so good, don’t you think she deserves to be remembered? Especially by you?”
A shrug. “I’d think you of all people’d know it’s easier to bury the past than relive it.”
For three years, Lightning had spent this anniversary alone in the nearest bar, nursing more than just a few beers. And that had been fine. This time around, he has friend who won't let his pain go unnoticed.

Summary
“Doc?” The kid’s tone was thoughtful, holding no trace of the confusion and anxiety Doc had been fighting since London. “Has anyone ever tried to kill you? Like, actively tried to get rid of you. Like, they saw you and said that’s who I want to kill—get him.”
The question was shocking for all its blunt nonchalance, but Doc kept his tone calm. “No. Not that I know of, at least.”
After the abrupt end of the World Grand Prix, Doc struggles to cope with all the unexpected excitement. Lightning has a solution that may or may not work—only time will tell.
A look into what the aftermath of Cars 2 might’ve looked like if Doc had been alive.

Summary
Mack had always said he was a lightweight, but Lightning couldn’t remember ever feeling so affected so fast by a single glass of alcohol.
Rusty squinted at him. “You okay, sonny?”
Lightning just shook his head. “What’s in this stuff?”
“Probably more than what’s supposed to be.” That was Mater, but matching voices to faces was becoming increasingly difficult. The next thing he knew, someone had decided to smack the cup out of his hand.
The day takes a turn for the worst when Lightning and Mater visit their favorite random drifter in the hills, who gives them a taste of his newest batch of moonshine. In his defense, how was Lightning supposed to know that the stuff wasn't made right?

“When’s the last time you celebrated your birthday?”
He finally glanced over at the kid to find Lighting rolling his eyes. “You’re still on that? Come on, Doc, it’s not a big deal. It’s over now, anyway.”
“You celebrated my birthday,” Doc countered. “I can’t celebrate yours? I wasn’t aware that’s how things worked these days.”
Doc finds out it's Lightning's birthday and a full-blown party ensues, Radiator Springs style. Though there seems to be something more beneath the surface of Lightning's protests, the town is determined to make it the best celebration ever.

“You’re brilliant on the racetrack, kid, but you’re stupid everywhere else. I can’t believe you went out there in this condition!”
“What? I couldn’t just throw the race!” He jabbed a finger at Doc. “You told me to give you my best and I did. If I don’t race, my sponsors will drop me. That’s the way it works!”
Lightning races sick, causing his mentor no small amount of worry. As Doc probes the situation further, he realizes there’s more to the kid’s behavior than a simple cold.

“Yeah, okay, but why this?” Lightning gestured to the room. “Why now? Why me? I-I wrecked your road; wrecked your town. I was horrible. I never had a nice thing to say to you—not once. You could’ve left me in the pits right after the race, and yet here we are.”
A wave of silence crashed over them. Not for the first time, Lightning wished Doc would mull over his next words a little faster.
After what felt like an eternity and a half, Doc said, “I called the press.”
Or, Lightning’s reflection on his life and Radiator Springs leads him to a very important conversation with Doc after the race.

Summary
Jay had her back in his arms within seconds, his expression tight with fierce anticipation.
“I already know my answer,” he said, trying to catch his breath. “What’s yours?”
Heart thumping in her throat, Nya sucked in a breath. Loath as she was to tear her gaze from Jay’s, she turned to Garmadon, scraping her throat raw in an effort to be heard over the battle.
“Garmadon! Marry us!”
During the final battle against the Crystal King's warriors, Nya and Jay hold their wedding ceremony. (Inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean scene between Will and Elizabeth.)

Summary
“P-Please!” Jay began. It wasn’t too hard to act scared with the way Kai was gripping his clothes like he was about to tear them apart. “Have mercy!”
“There is no mercy for traitors!” Kai growled. “And you might as well drop the act. I know you’re a spy. I should have you executed for your crimes against the crown! Unfortunately, the queen has… other plans for you.”
Though his tone was harsh and biting, Kai's face took on more of a desperate, pleading expression, as if begging them to understand—to read between the lines.

"Is that why you can barely walk?" Loki countered, hands already examining the wound.
"I tripped!"
"On a blade of grass?"
"Shut up," Thor growled as his leg physically shuddered with pain. "I thought you were leaving."
Loki clenched his teeth until he created his own bolts of pain. "Not until I get you safely back to wherever it is you came from."
Loki had spent every waking moment since Sylvie and the Void scouring the multiverse for answers—for some way to fix what was so needlessly broken. The last thing he expected was to run into a familiar face. It turns out, the multiverse isn’t the only thing that needs fixing.

Summary
Blood still oozed from Thor’s wound, like one thick, long stream crawling down a cheek. It was this morbid comparison that made Loki aware of his own tears. They flowed fast and freely, thick droplets that dripped onto Thor’s chest and mixed with the dark pools of blood.
“I ca…” A single, choked sob stole his breath away as he gripped Thor’s arm. “I… I can’t do it. I’m sorry, brother, I… I can’t… I’m not… not strong enough…”
In this sequel to "That's How Heroes Are Made," Loki finds himself far more than six feet under the ground with a badly injured Thor. Acting as their only lifeline, Loki tries his best to get them both to the surface, but even gods bleed and the newest Avenger finds his own strength waning with each painful step...

Summary
“You don’t get it, do you? I’m dying!”
His eyes were brimming with sorrow. “That would make two of us then.”
”No! You still don’t get it! I’m physically dying. I ate a stupid green-striped mollusk on my last mission and it’s literally killing me, so don’t you dare tell me you ‘understand’ or that you can ‘relate’ to my situation. No, it only makes one of us because you, Master Kenobi, are perfectly fine!”
At this, his sad eyes sharpened and he stood a little straighter.
“Am I? For the past year, I’ve died a little each day. Is it my fault no one can tell just by looking at me? I’m afraid, Knight Damsin, that you’re not the only Jedi in the temple who knows what Death’s touch feels like.”While Anakin and Obi-Wan are still adjusting to their new lives as Master and Apprentice, Taria is struggling to find a reason to keep holding on to the life that’s slowly draining from her. When two lost souls find each other, not even the illustrious Jedi Order can keep them apart…
