Eddie hates him. He doesn’t know anything about this man, but he hates him, to the bone. He’s peering over his glasses, looking at Eddie like he’s the one being stupid, seems to be blissfully unaware he just put in the dumbest coffee order Eddie’s heard all day, all week even.
Doesn't help that the asshole who just ordered a 'foamless cappuccino' has the audacity to be handsome too, all freckled tan skin and swoopy hair. Not that Eddie's into that, he thinks, well, it's been a while for him, maybe he doesn't know what he's into anymore.
But Steve the Asshole Regular is definitely straight anyway, probably, yeah, sure, straight. That's what Eddie's going to stick to, no matter what Chrissy tries to say otherwise.

Steve and Eddie are friends. Ever since Steve's been getting confused over the kids' nerdy stuff, Eddie has stepped up to help. After a particularly bad night, the two form an even closer bond.
Excerpt:
Dustin’s voice drifted to them from the kitchen, “You wouldn’t understand, Steve.” Robin giggled, along with everyone else. But, Eddie saw the smallest, ever-so-slight glimmer of sadness in the man’s eyes.
He really wanted to know, Eddie realized.
The thought was enough to make him call out to Dustin, “Quit acting like you know what you’re talking about. You’re all about to die because Will is a way better DM than me and you got too comfortable,” then, he turned to Steve pointedly, “They’re screaming because Wheeler’s heroics just got him murdered and now they have no solid source of damage outside of Lucas’s ranger.”
He heard offended gasps from behind him and ignored them. Because the smile that spread across Steve’s face confirmed Eddie’s decision.

It wasn’t like the hearing thing was that hard to piece together- Eddie had literally picked it up in one night. He usually wasn’t quiet so he hadn’t had a reason to suspect before now, but the first moment Eddie had lowered his voice he caught on. How could anyone not pick up on how Steve looked like he was caving in on himself?
“I didn’t want anyone to worry. I handled it, I have medicines and everything-” Steve argued.
In which Steve Harrington has never allowed anyone to care for him before, and finally lets someone in. It just so happens to be a curly haired metal-head that the prep may or may not be hopelessly in love with. -

Robin starts to smile, this big, evil grin that unfurls slowly across her face, and oh. Oh no. That’s not good. That’s never good. That always means trouble.
Robin sticks her hands on her hips and juts her chin out at Steve. “I bet I can get a Valentine’s date before you can,” she says, all arrogance.
Dustin and Lucas oooh at her fighting words, then turn to Steve for his rebuttal.
“Robin, Robin, are you sure you want to do that?” He asks, standing to his full height. His shoulders roll back, and he feels the patented Harrington Charm flooding back through his body like a switch has been flipped.
“Absolutely certain,” Robin replies, not backing down. She holds out her hand.
Steve shakes his head at her, then lets an easy, confident smile curl his mouth. “You’re gonna regret that,” he says, then smacks his palm into hers, “but you’re on.”
In which a bet is made, Steve’s prowess shines until it doesn’t, and sometimes things don’t end up the way they’re planned.

From this proximity, Steve can smell his cologne and lingering car oil. He can feel his brain cells dying every second he inhales the intoxicating aroma. Steve breathes shallowly, too aware of the growing blush on his cheeks, and says, “S-sure. I’d like that.”
Eddie smirks and has the audacity to wink before going to each of his kids, ruffling their hair, and kissing them goodbye with a big wet smack on their cheeks. He passes by Steve again and murmurs, “I won’t say goodbye to you like that. Not yet, at least. Good luck with my little gremlins” before walking out the door.
