The last thing Paul Matthews remembers is pulling the pin on the grenade, a flash of light, and blinding pain as his body got ripped apart at the seams. The only thing on his mind, though, was the person this was all for. Emma. He thought of her laugh, her smirk as she served him coffee, and her opening up to him in the bunker.
With his last thought, he thinks, at least she will survive. And then it was all over.
He accepts his fate and allows his world to fade to black. But, a foot jams in the doorway of his mind, preventing it from shutting completely. Uncontrollably, a song pops into Paul’s head.
