“Anthony?” someone asked, but he didn’t recognize the voice. That probably made it okay that he didn’t answer, right?
    “Not responsive,” the voice said.

Crowley just stared up at the white ceiling with bright white lights, and feeling more and more like he wanted to get up and run away, except his body wouldn’t move—

And then someone was there above him, looking down at him with the most beautiful smile Crowley had ever seen. In fact, Crowley realized, this person might have been the most beautiful man he had ever seen. He had blue eyes and soft white-blond curls and a rounded face that looked perfect holding a smile like that, like it was made for it, the full cheeks giving the smile more room to grow.
“Hello, Anthony,” said the man. “Not feeling your best, I see? We’ll get you fixed up, my dear, don’t worry.”

    Summary

The excitement of spending a day traveling with Crowley had turned to deep embarrassment. Rather than a flight followed by a late dinner somewhere and then a night apart, Aziraphale was cold, wet, hungry, and injured, in the wrong city, and facing a night sharing a room with his secret crush in which there was only one bed. And— Aziraphale looked down at what he was holding. Flannel pajamas, tartan ones. He was going to have to go back out there and face the ever-elegant Crowley in his night clothes.

Written for the Winter Wonderland Zine

I'd never written a "There was only one bed" fic and I had so much fun with this. I hope you all enjoy it!

    Summary

Aziraphale Fell did not mean for any of it to happen. Not that it wasn’t his fault— it was, completely. His one tiny lie, offered in the heat of the moment, seemed like swimming out just a few feet too far in the ocean and suddenly getting caught in the rip tide, with no way to control where you were going and when (if) you’d ever get back to solid ground. He never expected that one minor falsehood could change his life completely.

But this is a love story, after all.

It began with a house, a car, a flat tire, and the most beautiful man Aziraphale had ever seen.

    Summary

While on a bad blind date at a coffee shop, bookshop owner Aziraphale meets a gorgeous red-haired barista. Also Aziraphale knows flower language and he's not afraid to use it.

So now Aziraphale was going on a date with someone Tracy knew. Since Tracy had arranged it, Aziraphale let her pick the place as well: Double Double, a new coffee shop. Tracy had promised that the shop was lovely and had a selection of rich desserts, which was honestly the part that had convinced Aziraphale.

Aziraphale’s one bit of defiance was the flowers. He had a book or two in his shop on flower language, and he’d decided that the bouquet was going to be the sweetener for the day (besides the dessert), the spoonful of sugar that helped the medicine go down.

Yellow carnations: Disdain, disappointment, rejection. Red snapdragon: Deception. Purple columbine: foolishness. White candytuft: indifference. And finally butterfly weed, a bright little orange cluster flower, which meant Let me go!

Armed with his passive-aggressive (but quite lovely smelling) bouquet, Aziraphale took a cab to Double Double.

    Time screeched to a halt.

    “Yes,” Aziraphale said, going still.

Crowley grinned. “Do you want to go back to my flat first?”

    And time went wild.

The adorable and talented Miele_Petite gifted me an illustration last year for my birthday, and it has languished, fic-less for a whole year, before I found the perfect cracksmut to accompany it. I didn’t want to rush something for it, and was willing to wait for just the right plot bunny to go with the inspiration. In deference to the birthday theme, I went with birthday cake. The events of an entirely ordinary day for one particular police station in London towards the beginning of summer in 2019.

    ~ ~ ~

Lonnie Clarke was talking to a lunatic.

To be fair, that wasn’t really unusual. It was a standard part of police work.

This particular lunatic was a special sort of insane, though. Crazy like a fox, this Mr. Fell. Or, just absurdly lucky.

Clarke was just finishing up with him — confirming his contact information, thanking him for his time, and so on — when an entirely different and more familiar lunatic came swaggering in with their hands cuffed in front of them. “OI! Who sent a rookie to pick me up all by herself? That’s hazing, ‘s what that is. Thought you lot were above all that.”

Ladies and gentlemen, A.J. Crowley was in the building.

    Summary

Aziraphale Fell is an accomplished food writer and book collector who leads a quiet life. Anthony Crowley, owner of the Grand Duke Distillery, has a wild reputation that’s more fiction than fact. As former culinary school classmates, they share a love of food and drink — and a history of a long ago, lingering kiss. Years later, their friendship simmers into a heated affair that might just lead to true love — if they can overcome their own doubts.

Aziraphale rises from his chair, takes a few steps towards him, then hesitates. Crowley knows a hundred different emotions must be flickering across his face, reflecting all the turmoil between his head and his heart. His heart is loud, insistent, nudging him to see the earnest hope in Aziraphale’s expression, to remember the beatific boy who lent him a pen and kissed him on a stair step, urging him to not let go of this man with ink-stained fingers and rare books who constantly surprises him.

His shoulders tense as his breath hitches, his voice hoarse. “You need to tell me exactly what you want.”

One drunken evening, Aziraphale is determined to convince Crowley that human clothing is superior to miracled clothes. Crowley reluctantly agrees to try on real garments, and when Aziraphale glimpses a half-naked demon, temptations (and so many waistcoat buttons) lead to a passionate night.

The corner of Crowley’s mouth lifts slightly. He tugs the fabric at his waist and slips the shirt up his back and over his head with a shimmering hiss of silk across his skin. He tosses the shirt onto the chair and stands in the room, one hip cocked, his torso bare.

“What now, angel?” Crowley asks, his voice low.

“No, it -just reminded me of your sword, that’s all. The flaming one. You know, you pinning me against the wall with it like that - ” he gestured airily to the shelf, “and, uh, I don’t know, smiting me with holy love or something.”

He directed an unmistakable onceover at Aziraphale’s physical form, perhaps justifiably doubtful that his message would get across without it.

But to their mutual surprise, Aziraphale had understood him perfectly.

    “Oh I see,” he said.

Crowley opened his mouth, then closed it again. The unexpected success of communication had left them both at a bit of a loss for words.

“[Crowley’s] watch gave the time in twenty world capitals and in a capital city in Another Place, where it was always one time, and that was Too Late.” — Good Omens, by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett

After Aziraphale and Crowley finally break the power of Heaven and Hell, Crowley wants to give Aziraphale time and space to adjust to his new independence. After all, he knows what it’s like, learning to live without Heaven. So Crowley doesn’t push for a relationship right away. He’s letting Aziraphale move at his own pace. No rush.

And then along comes Emerson Bradford: a gorgeous American investor with a heart-melting smile, ocean-blue eyes, and a passion for rare book preservation. He’s heard of Aziraphale. He wants to give Aziraphale everything he needs to take care of his books. He wants to give Aziraphale a lot more, besides. And it seems like Aziraphale wants what Emerson has to give.

Has Crowley finally left things Too Late?

(Spoiler: There is a happy ending!)
