Sydney thinks that if she found out she was pregnant a little earlier she probably wouldn’t have gone through with it. Like, if she found out before her landlord changed the locks on her apartment, or before the bank sent her all those red letters, or before the pasta dried up, she’d probably have just taken herself to Planned Parenthood, popped the pills and charged it to the game. But as it is, the two blue lines appear on the stick during the worst months of her life, the first months of the pandemic when she’s unemployed and shit scared that her dad is going to get coronavirus and die. And when she sees them, she just thinks: well, this might as well happen. She was a disappointment before. What’s one more thing?
Before she meets Carmy, Sydney has a baby.

Duke thinks now might be a bad time to try and convince Bruce he isn't tired, not when he's got drool on his cheek from snoring away in the batmobile for an hour, "I wanted to help." He whispers again, but it sounds childish in his own ears.
But Bruce doesn't sound any less concerned when he gently says, "I know. I want to help everyone too, but sometimes you need to help yourself first."
(Duke is not supposed to be out patrolling at night, but he's going to help his ridiculously large family — besides, he's not even that tired!)

Summary
There’s a million reasons that can explain why Duke’s found himself living in Bruce Wayne’s manor and there’s a million more that can explain why this fact scares the living shit out of him.
The people here are the people that Duke’s looked up to ever since he first heard the names Batman and Robin. And now- what? He’s living with them?
Or, maybe, it'd be more apt to say that he lives in their shadows.
And he’s not sure he’ll be able to work his way up to their sides.
That’s not to say he’s not going to try. If there’s one thing that Duke Thomas does, it’s not giving up. He’s going to give this chance his all.
He just needs to find out where he fits.

“But it wasn’t enough. The Earth still suffers now, as it did an age ago. Even now, she fights off the rot eating towards her core. Even now, she washes clean the damage Chaos inflicts on her. Because He’s still bitter at what the Goddess took from Him.
“This is why the Goddess doesn’t walk among us, emboldened by Her success,” Duke told the children. “This is why She can’t afford to drop her guard. Chaos still searches for his Love, and the Goddess fights Him back time and time again.”

An AU where Gotham exists, as it always does, but in a world of plants. Duke lives near the base of one of the Great Trees that spear through the planet and is happy to remain there with his cousin and the Alley's many stray kids.
At least, until he has to visit the Great Tree himself.
