“These incidents are connected,” Miles tells the SIU Director, in the earliest meeting with the man he can get. “They have to be. Someone is causing them, and leaving these marks behind, and, somehow, they’re getting away with it.” He straightens as much as he can, hands curling into fists. “Those that are guilty cannot be allowed to walk free. I will not let that stand.”
The Director regards him impassively, hands steepled together in front of his face.
“An interesting observation, Mr. Edgeworth,” he says, eventually. He lets out an exhale, then pushes himself up in his chair. “Though quite a lot for only one person to handle on their own, surely.” He cocks his head, and offers Miles the barest hint of a smile, eyes sharp. “Why don’t we pair you with someone that can help split the work?”
He, as Miles already suspects, is not talking about Detective Gumshoe.

Summary
It starts like this: at age eight, a young boy looks in the mirror and realizes his reflection is wrong. Eight years later, that young girl raises her hand to help a woman in need, and her life as she knows it is ripped away.
Maybe it's for the best. New city, new name, new school. A chance to reinvent herself during her year-long probation, and if she's lucky, maybe the people of her hometown won't even recognize her afterwards.
Of course, it can never be that simple. Pieces shift on a cosmic chessboard, and the girl with the foolish heart raises her hand against injustice again.

Summary
Lapis, disillusioned with college and late to class, runs into an odd girl who makes a big deal about her stepping on some dandelions. Whatever, right? Just move on. Except she can't because it just so happens that very girl is in her chemistry class, and they have a group project. She's sure she's in for an agonizing semester, when actually, it turns out what she's been missing is right in front of her.
Semesters later, when Lapis and Peridot are about to graduate, Peridot gets a call, and learns that her grandmother, who raised her, has died and left her remote house in Wyoming to Peridot. The choice is theirs: stay with their college friends in Denver, or uproot their lives to the middle of nowhere, WY.
