Summary
It wasn't that Adam listened to the comments from other Aglionby boys about "the brain and the brawn" or took any of their gold-plated opinions into account.
It was the fearless, almost insubordinate, nature of Ronan's rolled up sleeves. Two handprints encircled his wrists, a deep violet, darker than any mark Adam had ever seen. Gansey sported a matching color on both palms, as if he'd dipped them completely in paint.

Summary
Several heads flitted to Steve, he only paid attention to one.
Soda’s head was cocked, now, as he lifted a hand to wave at Steve and called out a smooth; “Steve-o, you alright over there?”
Steve frowned, “Mh-hm.”
Soda raised a brow, “Uh-huh.”
He never said he was a good liar.
Soda, unfortunately, would have been able to tell whether Steve was or not, because the two of them have been attached at the hip for years, and even if they weren’t, Soda was as good at reading people as Steve was good at cars, which meant Soda would have been able to see through just about anybody.
(Or, Steve and Soda are in love, they seem to be the only ones who don’t know.)

Summary
"It was laughable now, that these were the sorts of things he used to worry about. Last year for his birthday, Darry had gotten the responsibility of keeping both his brothers alive and out of the custody of the state, a full-time job, and a mortgage (seriously, who the hell thought it was a good idea to give a twenty-year-old a mortgage?) He'd also gotten a candy bar and a sports magazine from Soda, but the nice gesture had been rather lost in everything that came after."
Or: several months after the deaths of Dally and Johnny, the gang tries to piece their lives back together, one month at a time.

Summary
Sodapop Curtis was not smart, he knew this. He’d accepted this fact a long time ago. He’s always had his looks, attention from girls, the ability to make his brothers laugh, and other things society doesn’t seem to value all that much.
At some point, none of this seems to be enough. He gets attention he doesn’t always like, he is a dropout with no prospects, and sometimes he thinks, maybe his brothers are better off without him.
OR
Soda’s got pretty privilege, but as he gets older, things start to change.
