This idea came to me in the shower and has refused to leave me alone. I love the careers; they deserve better than what they got. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to happiness.

If you see a typo or grammar error in the story, feel free to tell me. I'll have read over it 38 times and have still missed it. The fic is, for the most part, canon-compliant (as in nothing should directly violate canon, I might've forgotten or misremembered something, though.)

Summary

Maybe if she'd died, it would have been seen differently. Maybe if she'd been able to save one of them, things would have been different. A mother might have gone home to her daughter. An eldest daughter might not have left her siblings to the mercy of their father. An only daughter might have gone home. An innocent boy might not have died. A tiny fighter of a girl might have lived. If she'd died, then the sun and the rainbow would still be alive.

The series spans the 72nd Hunger Games - post-rebellion.
Entirely canon-compliant up until the 74th Hunger Games (honestly, it's just a few deaths being switched around) and from then on, some things are different to canon, but for the most part, it complies with canon.
