Summary
It’s the night of the whole ‘Incident’ with the call threat. Steve, despite his earlier protests, takes Jim up on his offer for ice cream. It isn’t until that night that Jim remembers communicating is a thing and asks Steve what was bothering him in the first place.
Aka: Actually explaining why Steve was upset in ‘inarticulation’ in a fic called ‘articulation’ cuz I totally didn’t just realize I never actually explained it
(“Hold it.” Jim tugs Steve back by the collar of his shirt before he’s able to retreat back to his room for the night.
“Hoooop, c’mon, man, I just wanna sleep.” Steve whines rather petulantly.
“I want to do nothing more than pass out in my bed right now, but we both know we have to talk about some things before we turn in.” Jim gruffly replies.)

He’s quiet when no one’s around. When he’s alone in class, he just works silently, doing something in his notebook that doesn’t really look like writing. And Eddie’s curiosity turns from just wanting to know who Steve Harrington is, to who Steve Harrington is and what he draws in his notebook when he’s not taking notes.
Then he notices how pretty his eyes are, and Eddie wants to slam his head in his locker until he collapses on the floor, because this was never supposed to happen. He has fucking butterflies. Christ.
