Summary
“When’s the ball?” Rook asks with a sigh. Lucanis’s smile tells her he took the question as an agreement.
“One week from today,” he says. That leaves seven days for him to teach her how to act like a Crow. Seven days for her to strengthen his resistance to blood magic. Seven days to get a grip on her emotions and not let slip the one secret she holds closest to her heart.

Illario's throwing a masquerade ball to crown himself First Talon, so Lucanis and Rook do the only logical thing: sneak in as a Crow couple to save Caterina. It's a fool-proof plan with only three issues: Rook's not a Crow, Lucanis is susceptible to Illario's control, and they're not a couple.

Summary
“D’you have a name, love?” He was spitting mischief into every word. “Or should I just call you angel face?”
By God, he was not pulling any punches. His voice being as silky as your knickers didn’t help, nor did his wicked teeth or his lithe hands. It was a feat of its own to close your mouth, and another altogether to speak.
Your name spilled off his lips with an exhaled drag, hot and smoking and swept away by the wind.
“Pleasure to meet you, angel face,” he said cheekily. “You can call me Sirius.”
[By the will of Mother Nature, you meet your downstairs neighbor—who has been dying to meet you just as much.]
