Over the past few months, Joshua Lyman had been through a lot, both in the workplace and personally. It had been one thing piled upon the other; the kidnapping of Zoey, the inability to get Berryhill as VP, Amy using him for political power, the Carrick defection, being stripped of a majority of his responsibilities, and dealing with Leo. It had taken a toll on his physical and mental health. But for the grace of Dr. Bartlet and the President, he had managed to salvage a win for President Bartlet, which had started his slow rise back to normal. Unfortunately, all these months later, someone is going to attempt to ensure that he is taken down and out for the count, without any hope of overcoming the hurdle that had been thrown his way.

"Not just tax purposes," Eddie says indignantly, like that's Buck's main sticking point. Buck finally turns his head and looks at him. Still stupid. Still beautiful, in a light-colored Henley that makes his skin glow, his long fingers curled around the neck of the beer bottle resting on his knee. His big brown eyes and the encouraging little smile on his lips, like he's offering Buck a special treat, instead of a lifelong fucking commitment of platonic marriage. Buck wants to kiss him, or maybe strangle him. Either one would serve Eddie right.
Or: Eddie proposes marriage (platonically). Buck spirals.

The little dots pop up immediately, which Chris wasn’t expecting.
I’m not sure. I do know that it technically wasn’t a box, it was a pithos, which is like a big jar they used for storage. Box is a mistranslation, but it became so widely used that we all just roll with it now.
It’s a very classic Buck response. The dots keep going.
On that note, “hope” isn’t an exact translation either. Another way that people translate it is “deceptive expectation.” Hope isn’t necessarily deceptive, and we tend to use it in a positive way, so it’s maybe not the BEST word to use, but I guess in English we don’t have a better one for “deceptive expectation” and “hope” sounds pithier.
