“Tu ciclo es… ¿tienes que acostarte con alguien? Como…”
—Como la menstruación —dice Paz, y se vuelve a mover. Din toma aire al ver que Paz... se frota contra él, y al principio piensa que él también está patéticamente desesperado cuando se da cuenta de que Paz en realidad se frota contra las crestas de su coraza, sin aliento—. Esto es... cinco días. O algo así. Ya pasará.
"¿Y si no lo haces?"
—Los pongo y luego los fertilizo. Si no, entonces simplemente... —Paz respira hondo—. Se disuelven. Estaré... bien.
—Pero… ¿ necesitas a alguien?
—Yo… —Paz se detiene. Mira fijamente a Din, y Din le devuelve la mirada, y ambos permanecen en silencio durante un largo rato—. Tú…
Din respira con dificultad. No sabe por qué se ofrece de repente como voluntario. No sabe qué lo ha obligado a preguntar eso, pero ha viajado mucho entre la Purga y el descubrimiento de esta tribu, y se ha topado con cosas mucho más extrañas . Ha conocido especies que se reproducen a través de huevos. Ha oído cosas. Ha visto cosas.
Está interesado. Está terriblemente interesado.
—Te estoy… ofreciendo —dice, con voz aguda, como si confianza no fuera una palabra que él conozca.
Paz lo mira fijamente un rato. "¿Hablas en serio?", dice. "¿Estás...?"
"Soy."

Summary
There are a few spam e-mails at the top, and he feels a familiar spike of annoyance at the sight - he never signed up to receive these stupid advertisement emails, why does he have to be the one to go through and unsubscribe to all of them? It’s stupid, that’s all he’s saying - as well as a few texts from the 118-group chat, somebody trying to get a day off, but at the bottom, there’s a text that came in 23 minutes ago that makes his stomach fall to his ass and static buzz in his ears.

He knows his son is hardly one to take the time to spell everything out when he could use simple acronyms, but this isn’t that. These are misspellings, and the lack of emojis - from the kid who once spoke to him solely in the little suckers while he was on shift one day - has him immediately pulling up his son’s contact information and hitting dial, chewing on his inner cheek as he waits for the call to connect.
Or: As Eddie is debating his move to Texas, a few texts from his son in the middle of the day set him on a course to getting everything he's been wanting.

Oh sí. Eddie se va a casar con este chico.
Se va a llevar a Buck a casa y le va a hacer cosas muy sucias. El hecho de que estuviera seguro de que era heterosexual hasta hace cinco minutos no significa nada, no cuando Buck está haciendo esto, cuidando a Eddie sin tartamudear.
Eddie tuvo que decirle a sus padres que se fueran a la mierda, y cuando no lo aceptaron, entonces Buck vino con una logística contra la que no pudieron argumentar, y ooohhh sí, eso realmente lo está haciendo por Eddie.
