"Any louder? Maybe wake up my family while you're at it," comes the husky drawl from the direction of the bed.
"I've never been one to be quiet," Stiles says without thinking, then blushes furiously when he realizes how inappropriate the response is—at least in front of his future king. It doesn't stop Derek from laughing quietly, however, so maybe he didn't sound as bawdy as he imagined he did. He swallows thickly. "You of all people should know."
"Aye, I do know." The prince makes no move to get up; instead, he lifts the covers invitingly, allowing warmth to seep out from beneath the thick fur sheets that encircle his bare form like a protective embrace. "Come here then."

"School, of course. You were two grades ahead of me, and Scott and I were two losers who only had each other. Then suddenly you were there one day, during recess, glaring at everyone in sight like a little serial killer. I mean, damn, broody eyebrows even as a kid, like, holy shit, can I say?"
"Fuck you," Derek retorts, laughing under his breath when Stiles shoots him the middle finger and continues, leaning closer, practically nestled against Derek's side. "And let me guess. You and Scott came over to introduce yourselves?"
A snort. "Hell no. Der, you scared the crap out of us. Scott hid behind me, and we both ran away as fast as we could. I thought that would be the end of it, but then it happened again the very next day. And the next. We kept trying to avoid you—because seriously, why on earth were you looking at us with murder in your eyes every single time?"

He was a kid when she told him all this, so it didn't really make much sense to him at the time. All he could do was sit there on the edge of her bed, listening as his mother talked about how love is an act of courage. If you don't take that first step, then everything else is impossible too.

“Watch over the Gym and do not destroy it, he says,” Stiles scoffs as he shows the post-it note that Derek’s left behind for him to Scott. “I’m a very responsible person, aren’t I Scott?”
Scott, for his part, simply barks and wags his tail happily, agreeing with him.
See that? That is loyalty right there. Stiles wouldn’t get that out of Peter or Erica if his life depended on it.
Stiles reads the note again as he reaches out to pat the Growlithe on the head. He turns the note over and sighs, deep and exasperated, and maybe he clutches Scott’s ear too hard because the poor Pokémon yelps out and sets the note on fire with one breath.
