Viktor knew how he looked. With his sharp angles and hollowed cheeks and colt-like limbs, he was a serpentine god with all his alabaster beauty.
The nobles whispered about it. The investors watched Viktor move, fascination warring with discomfort. The Council scoffed at the idea of a Zaunite on their board—until they saw him.
Exotic. Enthralling. An exquisite thing to be coveted for themselves.
Viktor had once despised it.
Despised the way they stared, the way their fascination was always tinged with something possessive, as if he were a rare specimen on display. Loathed the murmurs in the Academy halls, the furtive glances that dogged him everywhere he went.
Now?
Now, he used it.
If they should lust after him, they did so at their own peril.
Desire was a fundamental human weakness. A distraction. A vulnerability. And if Jayce Talis was to prove useful, then Viktor would use every weakness he had.

Summary
Designation CC-2224, Marshal Commander Kote ‘Cody’, had always been a particularly good judge of character.
So, when he met his General for the 212th Attack Battalion, who immediately asked for his brother’s name not designation, he knew he would be a good General.
The General felt like a lake. Calm and painfully blue, but equally deep, and if Cody was one for dramatics, maybe a little mysterious.
However, Cody could also feel that the General was a liar. Intelligent and manipulative, caring but vicious, overt yet sly. He almost seemed like a politician. Cody reckoned he’d be pretty good at it.
Or, Cody is a Force sensitive empath and it changes the course of history.

His voice rattled like the coins in his hand had. “Because despite what you say, you seem more interested in your crystals than in the man who you saw killed right in front of you. Because any reasonable person would have done it by now. Because I read your papers, and I think they put part of you in ground when they made you give up your scientific practice, and you’ve been walking around like dead man ever since, looking for a reason to finish the job, and suddenly you see those crystals again and for the first time since then, you feel alive.”

None of this was worth anything if Viktor’d end up in the same place that he’d started, after all.
“Oh,” Vander said, brow furrowing. “I don’t know, actually – ‘s not like I pay myself – oi, Benzo!”
Vander pitched his voice up a bit, lifting his chin at one of the Last Drop’s patrons. A big man – not quite as large as Vander himself, but still – looked up from where he’d been pouring over a book.
“What’s the going rate for good help, these days?” Vander asked.
“Three cogs an hour,” the other man replied. “Four, if the help knows how to make a better latte than you.”
“Benzo keeps the books,” Vander explained, returning his attention to Viktor. “Among other things. Can you make a latte?”
“Yes,” Viktor said, lying through his teeth.
(Or, Vander runs a coffeehouse. Silco runs a revolution. Vi runs a high school fight club. Powder runs experiments on long-suffering strangers. Heimerdinger runs a molecular biology lab. Mel is running from her past, Jayce is running on dreams, and Viktor is running out of time.)

Each ship is preparing for launch, for a prosperous season, and each ship is teeming with little ant people climbing around ropes, carrying equipment, calling to one another, sparking with emergency welds and patch jobs.

Montross is a little cleverer on Korda VI. Jango ends up tossed into the cargo hold of 'The Stryker', a slaver freighter taking him to parts unknown and well out of Montross's way. Melida/Daan, weakened by its infighting and the Young suffering catastrophic losses, are raided by opportunistic slavers, resulting in Obi-Wan captured as a prize to be sold to a 'special' client - Force sensitive slaves are, after all, valuable cargo (and there is a dark shadow in the galaxy always on the look out for forgotten, powerful Force sensitives).
By sheer luck - or maybe the Force - they're locked in cages beside each other. They plan, they escape... and the future shifts.
