I love this fic. It feels like comfort food and a hallmark flick in one. Hob is so human and endearingly earnest - and a lovely foil to the descriptions of precision, control, and eldritch being that are Dream. There are moments and lines throughout that are downright beautiful and poetic. All of the wedding/co-worker side characters are so vibrantly written and each is a lovely flavor addition to the story and further's Hob's characterization as well in response. And of course, the last chapter was masterfully written - I love that Dream's characterization was kept throughout - it can be so difficult to write explicit scenes without unintentionally turning characters into unrecognizable porn actors for the scene. Also the cherry on top that the author didnt let Hob off the hook the morning - all of the side characters deserved a giggle at his expense after that 😆

Ooh this crossover fits so beautifully! So many details and world building elements woven skillfully together by the author. Dream is very eldritch here, making Hob a very human and grounding foil - and a very patient loving partner. Love all the fae elements, characters, and the parallels between the two couples and personalities made me chuckle. The premise, planning, and battle were intriguing and I could easily imagine this story playing out on the screen in the Sandman TV show.

OK, now this...THIS is my offical show Sandman headcannon ending. Period.
This is so beautifully, achingly, lovingly written.
I love how well articulated Hob's inner thoughts and reactions are in his grief and as he builds towards Hope and bringing Dream back despite any potential cost. He is so charmingly relatable, well written, and very human.
His reactions to the wake, conversations with Death and Daniel, and rejection of the overlaid misguided disjointed thematic premise echoed my own thoughts vividly as I had watched that episode of the show. It is so satisfying to have a piece to come back to that soundly rejects it - I only wish I could have seen it played out exactly as it is written here on screen.

Summary
Going broke was never something Hob Gadling had intended to do. In fact, with barely enough money in his account to pay for a hotel and a storage unit, he goes to have a pint with Johanna Constantine, who offers to put him up in the remote and mysterious Dream House, with a long and bloody history. And has been in the Constantine family for centuries, meaning that Johanna has the keys. Hob does not take much convincing. What could go wrong, really?

What started out as a Haunting of Hill House AU has now spiraled into so much more, as Hob navigates love, loneliness and his own psyche as he realizes he might not be able to trust his reality.

What a fascinating AU!
The tone shifts rapidly between horror and fluffy romantic, which I love. The sharp contrast is palpable - the horror elements make the fluff all the more light, and vice-versa, the delve back into horror after the fluff makes it have an even more visceral impact.
Dream's eldritch being and powers of this world are so captivatingly realized and so satisfying to imagine. He truly feels unhuman in the best ways - unhinged at times - but in the end his motives are very understandable, and romantic in that possessive way that is off-putting yet we know we still deeply crave. Deliciously in the end, a perfect match for Hob.
Elements of the original Sandman world are thoughtfully integrated and referenced while maintaining a distinctly alternate universe and story. The Constantine family dynamic is just utterly delightful, Roxi is a wonderful addition, and Hob's character so pitch-perfectly realized and deeply endearing.
This is one I will come back to, repeatedly.

This is a masterpiece - the slow burn, the characterizations, the heartache and literal tears this forcefully pulled from me while reading the descriptions of Hob's very viseral mourning...and the creative figurative and literal rebuilding that followed. A slow burn with the rarest of pairings (Dream x Clark Kent) - they fit together surprisingly well - with Dream's eldritch-ness contrasting Clark's humanity in an angsty but satisfying dance. Beautiful characterization, and well written.

“And I’ll never forget it,” softer, real, Hob promises, until overtaken by a shit-eating grin. “Which sufficiently made up for the time before that when I barely got three words in before you walked out on me altogether to go make a decent playwright out of Will fucking Shaxberd.”
And there was the preening, subtle though it was. An elegant eyebrow twitched upward as at some amusement. “You would fashion me in your debt, Hob Gadling?”
“Nah. I’d see you Tuesday.”
A beat passed filled with genuine consideration, enough to make Hob’s heart leap, his weight shifting forward in his seat. “Tuesday, then.”

A fairly satisfying how it should have ended. A fate that the fates perhaps deserved.
This could easily be a top alternative head-cannon ending, at least to the Sandman tv show's world; the writers made some interesting decisions to change motivations and details from the comics that clearly should have lead to altering/avoiding consequences for Dream, but strangely, did not.

Summary
There are two people in the entire world who have the number of the prepaid burner phone that’s been burning a hole through Hob’s pocket for far longer than it ought to. That's going on four years now. Four years, two people in the world, and it’s never once rung. Until it does.
Hob gets a long awaited phone call signaling that his oldest friend is alive, and he's back, and he's carving a bloody path through London’s underbelly as he takes his revenge. The transatlantic flight home gives him plenty of time to replay what memories he has of his stranger before he up and vanished. What he finds is a violent terf war, his stranger a bit more feral, maybe, but it's familiar enough to ache.

Summary
Hob Gadling was celebrating cheating Death herself at a game of dice when he loudly declared that he is never going to die. It's what prompts his beautiful Stranger to materialize over his shoulder, proposing... a wager, of sorts. They'll just have to keep meeting century after century if his Stranger is ever going to collect.
But they've both lost after Hob is left drinking alone in 1989. So thirty-some years later, when his Stranger rematerializes with an apology and little explanation, there's hardly pretense to resume where they left off. There just remains the task of figuring out the rules of whatever game they're playing now.
Or: the Vampire AU in which Hob learns that Dream is exactly the supernatural creature he suspects, fairy tales are exactly as bloody as their origins suggest, and Twilight is never, not ever, to be cited as an authoritive source on things tall, goth, and brooding.
