Astarion took a very large sip of wine, his enhanced elven senses picking up every nuance of both the vintage and Gale's intoxicating proximity.
He had spent centuries perfecting his poise. A life of control, of calculated indulgence, of knowing precisely when to give and when to take. And yet, he was gripping the edge of the counter like a man drowning in the very thing he had spent weeks pretending not to crave.

Summary
Gale turned out to be a lovely surprise.
Obedient, easy to please, very ingenious when it comes to his mouth. And perhaps the best part was that he was willing to let Astarion utilize that mouth together with any and all of his powers, be it in battle or otherwise, needing only the smallest of gestures on Astarion’s part.
Perhaps Gale knew he would be generously rewarded for his efforts. And perhaps he truly wished for Astarion’s well-being. He wouldn’t complain either way.
He could spend hours with his new toy, playing and tying and tugging at all the right spots to make Gale cry out in pleasure.
But not once did he kiss him.

Astarion has nowhere to go after the Illithid tadpole gang go their separate ways. Directionless with his own life after nearly ascending he follows a heartbroken and dumped Gale back to his tower in Waterdeep. The tower is comfortable, even if Waterdeep isn't. And against his better judgement Astarion ends up staying way past the point he thought he’d leave as he falls into a comfortable dynamic with Gale.
