Summary
Bill constantly has people at the ready in very dimension Ford enters that in the event of Ford's death would put him on ice and remove the metal plate so Bill can possess the corpse. There's as much a official bounty on the living version of Ford as there is for these vulture-istic trade partners of Bill on the dead version of Ford.
One day the, at least to Ford, unthinkable happens. He dies and like cipher had orchestrated became a puppet once again. At first Bill was ecstatic about this win. Already making his way to that dimension's version of cipher cult to stun his followers and have some fun. However not long after Ford's brain death Bill got annoyed at the lack of Ford's presence and jump started the already slightly decayed brain. It's a mess, Sixer's half crushed neurons needs help even just keeping his food moving and heart beating. At first Ford is all half broken animal instincts and vague connections of PTSD, he tries he darn-est to kick the other presence out of his body not knowing that he'll start dying again. -

Ford hates this so much. He wishes Bill would leave and never return, would never speak another word or lay another finger on him. Bill could be an abstract thought on the opposite side of the multiverse and it wouldn't be far enough from him.
“You're safe with me,” Bill promises.

Summary
The kids fall through the portal, and Stanley chases after them. He will not lose them the way he lost his brother.
Refusing to repeat the mistake of 30 years ago, the family becomes stranded in the multiverse, stuck without a clear path home. Stan's got his brother back, at least, but Stanford isn't the same as Stan remembers. Looks the same, sure, talks the same, absolutely - but he's got a 'professional working relationship' with Bill Cipher that Stan'd really rather not interrogate, and seems to have changed his whole vibe from Virgin Loser, to Space Cowboy Wizard; Which isn't all that different, now that Stan thinks about it.
Stan and Ford must now find a way to kill Bill, get the family back to Earth, and try to keep the ghosts of their past from tearing them apart. Again. Same boat, different planks, and neither one can deal with their own reflection in the water.
Well, whatever. They can handle this.
