Benrey has always been enigmatic to Gordon, from his ludicrous powers to his generally nonsensical motivations. But more confusing that any of that is what the fuck Benrey wants from him.
Against his better judgement, he decides to figure it out.
“I mean, what the fuck is up with him?” Gordon said. “One minute he’s— He, he tries to kiss me, and the next he’s chasing me with a fucking knife! I mean, he’s just gotta be crazy, right?”
“It, uh, doesn’t sound crazy to me, Mr. Freeman,” Tommy said.
“…What the fuck?”
(or: through his own convoluted thought process, gordon ropes himself into hate-dating benrey. it’ll probably be fine. and he definitely won’t have to deal with any underlying feelings that will surface.)

Vergil’s watching him again; hell, so is half of his brother’s collection of computer-savvy staff, but they don’t warrant Dante’s attention the way Vergil does. A month ago, he would have sneered at anyone who stared at him like this, daring them to act on their unconcealed lust even as his demonic instincts prickled with a hostile wariness. He might have even taken a few of the braver folks to bed with him, to help scratch that itch for a little while.
Now though? Now he has bigger fish to fry than the average drooling onlooker.

Or the one where Dante is stuck in a time loop, forced to endlessly wake up and watch Nero shoot himself in the head. No explanation.
He has two minutes from the second he wakes up to the second the gun is fired. How many times must Dante watch the kid die in his arms before he can finally save him? And why did it take him getting stuck in an endless gory time warp for him to come to terms with his feelings?

Summary
Of course his chest ached when he saw how Dante had suffered, knowing that it could have been avoided if Vergil had just let himself go back to the human world with his twin all those years ago. Of course his chest ached when he thought about how Lady and Trish commented that those beautiful, blinding smiles came easier, were more freely-given, felt more genuine, ever since Vergil had come back.
That ache was understandable, a mere product of roiling emotions that he'd tamped down and repressed for years only to find their way to the surface again. The sudden, gripping pain that felt as though something had wrapped around his heart, that started squeezing every time Vergil thought about how content he was just to have Dante fall asleep in his lap? That was not understandable, and felt so much more physical and real than any emotional pain he'd ever experienced before.
Something was very, very wrong.

Vergil hardly remembered the context anymore, only that he had given Nero a ruffling pat through his hair and let the words slip casually, “Good boy.” Nero had seized up, eyes comically wide, just for a split second. Tips of his ears flushed red, he ducked away, stuttering a half hearted curse under his breath. And Vergil was left on the landing alone, tongue flickering out to taste the fading trace of arousal from his boy. Delicious.
