The ER doctor had Charles lie on a bed, asked about his symptoms, and performed some necessary checks. Five minutes later, he regretfully announced that Charles had miscarried.
"Are you one hundred percent certain?" Charles asked him, "We used protection. I shouldn't have—"
"You mean you didn't know you were pregnant?" The doctor scrutinized Charles and Max for two seconds before saying, "Of course, situation like this can sometimes happen, especially with young couples. I'm very sorry."
