Summary
When The Rift opened up, Grian received the opportunity to study it. Leaving his job in forensic anthropology, he slowly understands that The Rift is causing magic to leak into the world. After his return, he is eager to share this information with the quickly changing world.
More important to Scar, and his boss, crime is changing in an unprecedented way. With unknown abilities that people seem to get by the day, to the changing body of forensics, the FBI itself steps in and decides to reassign Grian to their crime unit. Unpleased by this development, and his new partner Scar, Grian is all too unhappy to be the first official forensic mage.Series

The guy laughs—a warm, low sound, caramel-sweet. “You really don’t remember anything?”
“Not a blip,” Bdubs says. “Wait, I didn’t get your name. What’s your name?”
There’s a second when Bdubs thinks he won’t answer—he just looks at Bdubs, and his eyes go strangely crinkley around the corners. Then, he says, “Etho. I’m Etho, Bdubs.”

Summary
Grian has never been one to complain about resource gathering. It was part of how it went. You made cool stuff, you had to do the shit work of gathering all the impossibly hard materials needed to make the cool stuff. This was his sisyphus boulder. The constant gathering but never enough for it to last. It was just the way things were. He was, however, always happy to complain about the little nonsense songs and constant yammering of his uninvited companion on his sand-gathering adventure.
Scar, Mr. Good Times himself, had invited himself on this resource-gathering adventure after seeing Grian when flying overhead and insisted that he offer some help.
Oh, joy.
