If you were to tell Chuuya that his off-day would end in him trying to keep his suicidal partner from dying… he wouldn’t have given much of a flabbergasted reaction, actually.
It’s Dazai, after all: bleeding out at ungodly hours is his kind of thing, and dragging Chuuya in his messes is definitely his thing, too.

❝ "Oi, what's wrong?" Chuuya asks, advancing towards Dazai as his gaze scans every inch of his body.
"Mmh? Wrong? Nothing's wrong. Did you get a lot of water in your eyes in the shower? Or are you so small that-?"
"Don't start with that shit" Chuuya abruptly interrupts him. His slug is worried. He shouldn't be, Dazai isn't in any real danger and besides, he got into this alone. That he didn't notice the poison until after eating the second chocolate shows how much he was careless, how much he failed, "Something's wrong, idiot. Tell me what. Now."
"I don't know what Chuuya's talking about, I'm-" of course, his body chooses that precise moment to start vomiting blood. ❞

On Valentine's Day, Dazai steals and eats some chocolates that were given to Chuuya in the mafia. Turns out they were poisoned chocolates.

“Wait,” he grounds out, gaze darting back to Dazai as the rest of the sentence registers. “You’re hurt?”
“Astute observation,” Dazai drawls, rolling his eyes.
“Shut up, shithead,” Chuuya barks, “what happened?”
“Chuuya crushed me like the tiny cannonball he is,” Dazai says, making a pinching motion with his fingers. Chuuya slaps the hand away, growling.
“Fine, fine.” Dazai sighs. “A piece of rubble fell on it. It’s just fractured. I’ll live, unfortunately.”
Chuuya eyes him critically. “Any other injuries?”
“Average cuts and bruises,” Dazai dismisses, “now lay back down, slug. I’m not finished.” He waves the roll of gauze in his hand around impatiently.
“Fuck’s sake,” Chuuya hisses, doing the exact opposite and sitting up fully. At Dazai’s dry and unimpressed look, he adds, “I’m fine. You lay down, bastard.”
Or: 5 times Chuuya (begrudgingly, okay?!) takes care of Dazai and the 1 time Dazai returns the favour.

He sat up after a moment, scooting closer to Dazai and brushing his hair behind his ear lightly. “Hey, you okay?” he asked, more gently, regretting his harsh words at the sound of Dazai’s fragile tone.
It was unlike Dazai to be reprimanded and not come up with some stupid insult to fire back at Chuuya, calling him a dog or some bullshit.
“Can’t sleep.” Dazai mumbled, and Chuuya picked up on the hint of anxiety interwoven in Dazai’s quiet voice.
Ah, so that was it. Chuuya’s expression softened.

Summary
Dazai isn’t pretty in the conventional sense of the word right now.
Not in the way the women he flirts with might see him – before he opens his mouth that is – with fake smiles and sparkling eyes. In this moment, he’s vulnerable and genuine; and the most beautiful he could possibly be, in Chuuya’s humble opinion.
That mouth of his is open now too, but it’s not to spout pretty lies or sugar-coated nonsense. The only things coming from his lips are breathy moans and pleas for more, or harder. Even a few words of praise escape him now and then – or better yet, Chuuya’s name – stroking Chuuya’s ego just right and causing his thrusts to grow more erratic.
He’s eager to please after all, and Dazai is very hard to deny when he just flat-out tells him what he wants, rather than turning it into a riddle.
