That’s certainly news to Akira. There’s something heavy in the way Goro says it, the words weighted with some meaning that Akira can’t even begin to understand.
“It never seems to bother you when I touch it.”
“...I don’t mind when it’s you,” Goro admits, voice quiet.

Summary
What a strange day, Goro thinks to himself. Have they not been in this position before, only for Goro to die as he was about to take Akira’s metaphorical hand? How strange indeed that Akira is both right and wrong at once: Shido can be defeated; just not by Goro. Because Goro is the problem, not the solution.
Being born has been a waste of time. Akechi Goro is a blip in time, an editing mistake in continuity, a tragedy that started and ended long before Kurusu came along.
“It’s okay, Joker,” he says with a smile, not forced or fake or happy, but the only smile he knows to offer his one friend. “It’ll be okay. You’ve got this.”
Goro falls before Akira can answer.

Summary
The words such as irreversible brain damage, spinal cord injury all went over Akira’s head. He barely listened to the doctor with eyes fixed on the small figure on the hospital bed. He couldn’t help but think that Goro finally looks peaceful. The disgusting part of him thought it might be for the better.
Better. That’s when it dawned on him.
Goro Akechi would never get better. Goro Akechi would spend the rest of his days confined to a hospital bed.
In January of 201X, Goro Akechi is found again.
In January of 201X, Akira Kurusu's life ends.

Summary
Akechi raises his eyebrows. "Do you play?"
Ren shrugs and sits down on the bench, playing a couple more notes at random. "I used to." An old song he learned a long time ago suddenly surfaces in his mind and he plays the first few chords, slow and sustained, and soon the rest of it follows. It's simple enough that he remembers it mostly by ear, a graceful, melancholic melody floating above warm, somber chords that ebb and flow like a dance, lent et douloureux.

Though it's a pain to have him always hogging the bathroom in the morning. I think he styles his hair to look messy on purpose while he's in there, can you believe that? Fucking prick."
His sister merely shrugs. "You're one to judge, Mr. 'Uses-An-Inordinate-Amount-Of-Makeup.'"
"Futaba, there's a difference between needing the bathroom to look nice, and using it to look like you just got out of bed."

The smell of ink and blood lull him somewhere far away as the flowers begin to take root in his skin and grow into his veins.

Summary
“At any rate,” Akechi says, his words regaining that particular coldness from January. “Go to sleep.”
Akira snorts, feels the tension fade, and smiles for it. He leans against the doorway and tips his head to the side. It’s almost coy, and he knows Akechi can feel the confidence bubbling back up, because the guy’s brows pinch in consternation as he resists looking back over at Akira directly.
“Are you replacing Morgana?” Akira asks and delights when Akechi’s shoulders stiffen. “You know, he’s always telling me to sleep and all. But if you’re really going to commit to the bit, you should probably sleep on my chest.”
Akechi’s tie is unceremoniously chucked at a laughing Akira.
“Goodnight, Kurusu,” Akechi grounds out as Akira ducks out of the room.
In which Akechi Goro takes refuge in Akira's hometown after the events of the game. Or, Akechi learns how to live in the country, do dishes, and open his heart to someone for the first time.
