Bio

I am VanessaxAtalanta over on FFN, Amuse4siren on DA. I tend to sign notes as ~Lanta.
My writing is heavily influenced by the likes of Tamora Pierce, Diana Wynne Jones, J.R.R. Tolkien, Ray Bradbury and Charles Dickens (among others). I was raised on a combination of exquisitely illustrated fantasies and animal stories, Beatrix Potter, and Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Someone once said that I relish complexity--and that's the best way I've ever come across to describe my world-view.
At the same time, I appreciate conciseness and precision of language.

Different forms of the Red Admiral butterfly--Latin name Vanessa Atalanta--are distributed all across the the Northern Hemisphere. In a genus of 'ladies', the 'admirals' were the odd ones out until a trio of African butterflies was reclassified under genus Vanessa, subsequently outnumbering the 'ladies'. An alternate common name for the Red Admiral is the Red *Admirable*. I have not been able to ascertain which is the original name--some people claim that 'admiral' is a corruption of 'admirable', while others state the reverse. I myself prefer 'admirable', as it fits better with the overall feminine theme of the genus, *but*... -\(I-I )/-.
