Summary
Being stranded on a desert island was a novel idea when he was reading about it – especially the flowery romance novels that he keeps on the top shelf, where he could keep them away from judgemental eyes. He’d spent more than one afternoon reading about luxurious castles made of leaves and trees, of songs and music and love found while being utterly lost. There’d even been a dream or two of Edward ravishing him on the sand, just the two of them in their own little world.
The reality is rather… unpleasant.
Most unpleasantly, he’s stuck here with Izzy.

Summary
Usually, Stede seems to love the dirtiness that comes with their garden (Ed shouldn’t really call it theirs, since his only contribution is to stare at Stede’s flat ass in those fraying overalls, but Stede claims it’s motivating). Where Stede normally gets shivery and upset when faced with dirt, he’ll rummage in the soil with all the joy of an unsupervised three-year-old, albeit with significantly more judgment on how many inches should be between each trellis for the tomatoes. As long as it’s in service of their blossoming yard, Stede is down for any amount of grit and grime.
Except when he isn’t.

The cabin’s air was cold on their bare bottom, and they felt idiotic with their ass fully out like that, strange with the knowledge that anyone walking into the room would have a front row view of their exposed crack. They were just as unused to nakedness as to receiving touch, but they braved through the discomfort to please their captain.
It was worth it, too, if only to feel her smile against their own lips, then murmur “There you go, good girl.” between one kiss and another.
They were convinced they could live off her praise alone.

Izzy closes his eyes as he steps into the shower and runs his hands through his hair. The water hitting his scalp is so much more intense now, and it just feels so right. He doesn’t give a shit about his father’s talk of God’s creation being perfect. God was wrong, Izzy thinks as he drags his nails over his scalp, and here they are, three boys with an electric razor, rectifying his mistakes.
Ed, Izzy, and Jack move in together. First, Izzy gets a haircut. Then, there's work to be done.

Stede is sleeping. Ed is wide awake. This is not particularly out of the norm, Ed preferring to lie on his side watching him breathe over getting any shut eye. Ed doesn’t know this, but the tables are often turned, Stede watching the rise and fall of his chest in the middle of the night, reaching out to rest his palm against Ed’s sternum to feel his intake of breath.
Right now, though, Stede is dead to the world. He’s snoring a bit, and Ed is in love with him.

Therapy would say, this is temporary, Stede. When you’ve eaten something, and had some sleep, you’ll find this is temporary.
What therapy doesn’t help with is feeling like this now.
Therapy doesn’t stop the hot spikes at the back of his eyeballs, signalling tears that he isn’t even sure if he’s got the energy to shed. Therapy doesn’t stop the dull thud in his forehead that might mean dehydration, or exhaustion, or just that the car behind him in the never-ending traffic jam was a giant 4x4 with its LED headlights burning directly into Stede’s retinas for an hour.

“Naw, let him be,” Ed said, walking back into the room and clinking his empty plate down in the sink. “He’s made up his mind.”
Izzy squinted in Ed’s direction. “And don’t be planning any surprises. You know how I feel about surprises.”
“How does Izzy feel about surprises?” Stede asked.
“Hates ‘em,” Ed and Izzy said in unison as Izzy stood from the breakfast table.
