Summary
Dean’s masters, Michael and Lucifer, have killed each other. It’s not exactly out of character for them, but it means that their omega-pet changes hands with the rest of their property, inherited by their younger brother Castiel, an Alpha who has never wanted a pet and who doesn’t want Dean, either. Problem is, he has to keep him, at least until the investigation into the double murder is closed. Owned by an Alpha who’d much rather get rid of him? Dean doesn’t think it bodes well for him.
A story in which Dean’s expectations get shattered because Castiel turns out to be unlike any Alpha he’s ever met, and in which Castiel figures out that the rules can’t answer every question and sometimes you have to make it up as you go.

Summary
Dean should’ve known the Empty wouldn’t let Cas escape unscathed. It's not that he wasn't prepared for something with the rescue going sideways; he had kinda been expecting Cas to tumble through the portal human, weak and tired, maybe traumatized from God knows whatever the Empty used to torture him. Dean didn't care, he'd take whatever he could get of Cas with open arms.
He had not, however, anticipated returning with a suspiciously Cas-shaped child.
Introducing Castiel, new-and-improved Angel of the Lord, currently about three feet tall and a good few decades younger than his vessel’s correct age. Baby in a trench coat, indeed.
