Summary
Sitting at a table with Cid and Cloud was not an intended outcome of Yuffie's plans for the evening. Said plan had few specifics to it, but did operate under the general notion of not involving Cid. A few reasons for that, but the most important at the moment: he remained the member of her sprawling extended family she got on least well with. Cloud she had a lot of time for - long since mellowed from his harsher, dismissive attitudes on his first visit to Wutai.
Yuffie finds herself sharing a table with Cid and Cloud at the Avalanche post-Meteorfall party.

Summary
This meta essay situates the original release of Final Fantasy VII within its cultural context of Japan in the 1990s, when the implosion of a financial speculation bubble resulted in a decade of economic depression. I argue that Final Fantasy VII's depiction of the Shinra Corporation is a send-up of Japanese corporate culture and a critique of the "Japan Inc." connections between the government and the corporate sector that privileged the wealthy while destroying the environment, and I demonstrate how Avalanche references real-world grassroots activist movements.
Essentially, Barret was right about everything.

Part Twelve of the Red Shot Bar AU: Avalanche doesn’t exist. Barret is the owner of the Red Shot bar in Sector 7’s slum, and Cloud is the former SOLDIER turned mercenary who’s rolled into town.
Getting so caught up with the bar the past few weeks, Barret might’ve let his beard go. Decided he was overdue for a shave, when Marlene scrunched her nose up after one of his goodnight kisses and told him, Daddy, your whiskers hurt.
At the bathroom mirror the next morning, Barret tipped his chin back and rubbed his palm down the fur on his neck, seeing just how thick and unevenly it spread. Yeah, definitely got away from him.

"It said I was part of a project," he said dryly.
Cloud hallucinates. Voices sometimes, or music -- it's hard to tell. It's just another consequence of Jenova's encroaching presence in his DNA, and four years after Meteorfall everyone's more or less adapted to it and other oddities associated with being not quite human. Mostly.
What begins as a chance encounter with something that isn't Jenova soon leads to a fight for survival that can no longer be contained in the spaces between numbers, as Cloud tries to keep himself together and finally put his past behind him.
