Hob gulps. “It was this…whole thing, where I was yours, and I served you. Like this. With my mouth.”
His legs spread in welcome, and Dream steps between them. As fascinating as this concept is, he would rather do other things than talk right now.
Dream grips a handful of Hob’s hair, tilting his head back to meet a bruising kiss. Hob twists and sighs, chasing him, so clearly wanting him.
“You are mine, Hob Gadling,” Dream speaks into his mouth, and Hob shivers, accepting it, claiming Dream in turn with his quiet supplication. “Go on, then. Serve me.”

The cracks and damages in the walls of the Dreaming - the aftermath of the Vortex - causes the dreams and nightmares of Dreamers all over the Dreaming to bleed together, and unprepared for the sheer number of Dreamers, dreams and nightmares, Dream finds himself overwhelmed and unable to deal with the situation. The only thing he can do is seek refuge with his oldest friend.

As requested: Dream flinches when Hob tries to hold his hand. Which Hob misinterprets as Dream not wanting him this way. Dream has to brave trauma and communication to navigate his way to more intimacy with Hob.
In the meantime, Hob just tries really hard to be a supportive friend to the man he's desperately in love with. -

Two years into his imprisonment, and Dream of the Endless has not given Roderick Burgess what he wants. Yet if he cannot have back his son, then he will have whatever else Dream has to give, and sell it to the highest bidder: body, powers, and all.
Hob Gadling, newly back from the Western Front, has barely slept since 1889, and is desperate for any sort of relief, even that peddled by mad old men claiming to be warlocks.

Summary
When a strange woman sometime in the 17th century tells Hob he's a High Priest, it doesn't take him all that long to figure out which God he serves - what else could his Stranger be but a God? That settled, he spends the next decades making sure their temple (the White Horse) is perfect, that his God knows Hob is devoted.
So when his Stranger doesn't show up for their 1989 meeting, Hob doesn't take it laying down. Instead, he uses all the knowledge he collected over the years to summon his God into his temple - thus, saving Dream from Burgess, albeit unknowingly.
What follows is a series of adventures as Hob joins Dream on his quest to find his tools. They may even discover something new about their relationship on the way.

Hob never thought he'd get to have a family again (or the start of one). And here he is now, Rose and Jed sleeping on his couch with Dream spread on top of them, all luxurious fur and soft purrs. Even when nightmares show Hob's greatest fears, he has warm (if a bit bony) arms to chase them away - after all, his creations flee from the Dream King's wrath.

The confession is done, but there's still much to talk about - not that Dream is rushing to do it, a maelstrom of emotions causing him to hesitate. Thankfully, his favourite niece is right there to gently prod and cuddle her stubborn Uncle into motion.
As it turns out, conversations don't have to be scary, and loving someone (and being loved) is worth all the effort.

He finally gets his answers, and gets to see another side of Dream - one caring and soft, bending to Rose and Jed's every whim. It's awfully endearing/
