Summary

They built several ships using the latest in long-distance spaceflight technology. Their initial hope was by sending multiple ships filled with thousands of humans they could find suitable planets for habitation and continuation of the human species. By launch, it morphed into something different.
A ship racing against time somehow got lost on the way to their assigned system.
