She starts with Kevin. Andrew expects it to work—especially with how arrogant Kevin is most days, he’s practically a queen in his own right—but the blade glances over his hand without leaving a single scratch.
The same thing happens to the rest of the guys in their group—Jean, Seth, and Jeremy all come away pristine and untouched. It’s looking more and more like this whole trip out here was a waste of time and they’re all going to die.
When the knife maker stops in front of him, Andrew obediently holds his hand out, expecting nothing. Instead, he gets pain. The blade cuts him—not deep, but it’s more than enough to claim him as Fillory’s true High King.
