Summary
In the city of Piltover, mistletoe is a fun and affectionate tradition, in which a twig of it is strung over doorways and amongst rafters, and if two people should walk underneath it at the same time, they exchange a kiss. It could be a little peck on the cheek between family, even, not necessarily romantic, but something to bring out bonds of trust and intimacy.
In Zaun, however, their own tradition is something called MistleFOE. If an unsuspecting person should cross underneath a dangling twig, they are free game to the first person who can strike them within a few seconds. They don't have to be decked, it could be a dropped bucket of water, a kick to the back of the knees, anything. Free game, as long as no permanent damage is done.
They, of course, do not think to explain their differences in tradition to each other.

Their little routine, the crying and the consequent comforting, remains as just that: a practiced song and dance, methodical, clinical, routinely going through the motions. Luo Binghe tries not to cry; Luo Binghe fails; Shen Qingqiu coos, because he’s never really stopped doing that; he pulls Binghe into his arms and Binghe starts sobbing harder; he coos some more and pats Binghe’s back or pets his hair; they remain in whatever ridiculously uncomfortable position they are in for a little longer than strictly necessary and then they will part, both a little calmer, and go on with their day.
That is all it is. Comfort and consolation; distraction and deflection.
Until it isn’t.
or: Luo Binghe is a crybaby and Shen Qingqiu is utterly helpless against it.

Opening his eyes, Mu Yuan finds the disciple giving him a glare that’s a lot less glare-y. “That depends,” he says mildly. Then he smiles. “If you feel better or not.” He keeps his palm in the center of the man’s chest.
Green eyes meet his own for a few really long seconds. Then the man inhales deeply and circulates his qi. His pretty green eyes widen and his lips part with surprise. “What did you do?”
Mu Yuan grins. “Better, right? Ha! I knew it!.” He removes his hand and rocks back on his heels feeling entirely too pleased with himself.
The Qing Jing peak disciple gets a complicated look on his face. “It’s…” Finally he adds grudgingly, “Better.”
Mu Yuan keeps smiling. “You didn’t think I could help you, did you?”
That earns him a fresh scowl. “Who exactly do you think you’re talking to?”
Oh, is he one of THOSE? Mu Yuan thinks. He rolls his eyes. “Yeah, you’re very scary and intimidating, I get it.” He leans in and says softly, “But I’m glad you feel better.”

“Shizun,” he purred, darkly calm despite the anger oozing out of his mock-respectful smile. Luo Binghe's grip on Xiu Ya's blade tightened, and he realised with belated horror that his blood was running down the sword and dripping by Shen Qingqiu's feet. His sword had to be held at an upwards angle now, to reach the place where he pierced him back then.
Shen Qingqiu felt sick. There was something wrong in this dream.
“I ask you again. Do you regret it, Shizun?”

Shen Qingqiu can't answer whether he regrets betraying him. Luo Binghe wants his Shizun to understand how he suffered, and drags Shen Qingqiu into his dreamscape of the Endless Abyss that night.
The only problem: Shen Qingqiu isn't waking up.

Brainstorm was silent, field indicating nothing. Perceptor calculated whether it would be more logical or illogical to wait, and concluded the latter. Brainstorm made rapid decisions, and had not formerly needed encouragement to voice them, but that had been millions of stellar cycles ago. “I would appreciate promptness in your rejection.”
“Who said anything about rejecting?” Brainstorm tipped his head to the side. “I’m just trying to make sure I’ve got this straight in my processor. You performed ethically dubious, untested, methodologically uncertain engineering on yourself. Because you missed me.”
Perceptor deleted all of his emotions for a reason. After the Quintesson threat leads Optimus Prime to push through the Autobot-Decepticon Alliance, that reason no longer applies. Fixing the situation is going to take some trial and error...and a self-proclaimed genius.
