Izzy's been tense and irritable and Jim decides someone needs to fuck it out him. That someone being them. After some negotiations, they agree on doing a small scene. A bit of roleplay where Izzy's Jim's ever so obedient housewife.
It's about giving Izzy a release and some proper pleasure, a break from his usual life, and he's very much into it even if he struggles a bit with sticking to the role.

Izzy's over it. He's over Ed and over what happened, over the way he felt about himself and about life right after Stede had returned and Ed had... well, returned. And yet he finds himself struggling to see his worth once again, taken over by the bitter thoughts that he's pushed aside and left behind... and then he falls ill. Comes down with a nasty fucking fever and aches and a cough (it's the grippe, again, isn't it?) that have him stuck in bed feeling all the more useless.
Then comes Stede, full of care and understanding, determined to show him just how much he is worth.

The name of the series comes from the fact that the first flu epidemic to hit the Americas was much later that the series time line, which kind of means the chances of him catching it even once would be slim as fuck.

An increasingly under-the-weather Mulder stubbornly tries to pursue a lead in a rainstorm (because of course he does) and an increasingly annoyed-with-the-whole-situation Scully ends up tenderly caring for him (because of course she does).
He looks, Scully thinks, remarkably like a puppy that’s been left out on the porch in a thunderstorm and is unsure whether it’s still wanted. She resists the urge to reach over and pat his head accordingly, reassuringly.
