“Charles,” the raven-haired boy cut in, attaching himself to Charles's forearm, right in the way of the torch Edwin was about to pass to his companion. “I'll go with Charles.”

Summary
Since they'd fallen out of hell, the Night Nurse slamming the door on the awful baby doll demon behind them, Charles had been itching to touch Edwin. And it wasn't like his usual touch-oriented personality just wishing to have some sort of contact. He could control that easily enough after all this time.
No, this was something different.
This felt like a desperation. A need to be in Edwin's personal space, to keep his hands on him. He wanted to wrap his best friend in a hug and never let go, he wanted to sit as close as possible as they heard a new case. He wanted to take Niko’s place as she grabbed Edwin's hand to drag him to watch another one of her shows. He wanted to tuck Edwin against him as they sat on the couch. He would wrap an arm around Crystal and wish it was Edwin, who was merely across the room.

After Hell, Charles is terrified of letting Edwin out of his reach for fear that he might get taken away again. He is, of course, being very subtle in his attempts to keep Edwin close.

And Charles doesn’t notice that Edwin doesn't touch him anymore, maybe for no other reason than that he doesn’t want to, because doing so hurts, but then there’s a night when Edwin walks past him and he raises his hand like he wants to brush it against Charles’ arm – his metaphorical heartbeat picks up at that, like Charles has been waiting for this even more than he realised – but then, a second before his hand connects, Edwin pulls it back like he’s been burnt.

Edwin startles, the hand in his pocket clenching down and crushing the blossom. “Excuse me?”
There’s a laugh, and the Cat King moves a few steps away to lean against a tree, arms crossed over his chest. “Yeah, that’s how I remember the timeline going.”
The garden grows quiet around them, and if Edwin had a heartbeat, he’s pretty certain he’d be hearing it in his ears. “I simply don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Charles might have been right when he’d stated that Edwin did not like trying out new things as a general rule, but he was definitely beginning to see the appeal.
At least the beautiful, miraculous appeal of Charles languidly stretched out in front of Edwin on their bed, his legs pulled up and knees carelessly falling to the sides, spreading himself open further for his partner. Edwin was sitting between his splayed legs and barely knew where to look first. His left hand was lightly caressing Charles’ inner thigh and he enjoyed feeling the subtle movements, the tensing and releasing, of Charles’ muscles as he was stroking over them.
His other hand, yet more adventurous, was busy between Charles’ legs.

She swept her fingers through her hair, pulling the reddish curls into a quick, messy bun that she hid beneath her helmet. “If I have to hear about yours and Edwin’s anniversary one more time, I’m going to vomit. It’s been a month, dude. The honeymoon phase should be over by now.”
