Pilot Thomas "Tommy" Kinard hasn't been a ranch hand for seven years. However, a chance meeting with his old coworkers and some new cowboys, especially a certain Evan "Buck" Buckley, seems to be changing his life for the better.
EXCERPT:
“Evan!”
Tommy.
Turned his gaze back to the dirty blonde. And Tommy would say the man was a little sheepish, but it seemed as if something else overcame him once Tommy was looking straight at him again.
Excitement?
Nervousness?
Awe?
No.
Couldn’t be any of those. Tommy wasn’t the kind of guy who inspired that.
“Evan Buckley,” breathed Evan.
And.
And Tommy forgot that he should be shaking his hand too, right? Not that – not that Evan was offering.
But.
Tommy took the initiative, extending his own.
“Wow. Uh. Big hands,” said Evan, maybe babbled, as he shook Tommy’s hand and looked so expectantly at Tommy.
Tommy couldn’t say no to that face. He couldn’t say nothing.
“You have a good handshake too, Evan,” offered Tommy, a little distracted by Evan’s adorable smile.
The little laugh he was making.
Wait.
Were they still shaking hands?
Was that weird?

Tommy has planned the perfect proposal. Nothing goes according to plan.
Excerpt:
Howie?" Tommy's voice was a mix of desperation and hope. "I need your help. You don't happen to have access to a metal detector, do you?"
There was a pause on the other end of the line. "A metal detector? That's... an unusual request. What's going on, man?"
Tommy closed his eyes, dreading having to explain his predicament. "It's a long story, but I think I might have lost something important on the beach during a call yesterday. Something small, made of metal, and incredibly important."

Summary
Tommy Kinard was happy. He had his own house with a garage in which he had set up a car lift and a small gym. He was good at his job as a firefighter and had a good relationship with his colleagues.
And yet his colleagues - who are also his friends - insist that he is lonely and should start dating. Tommy, however, just waves it off. He is happy and has everything he needs.
But that changes when he meets Evan Buckley on a call.
And suddenly Tommy finds himself in bed with an attractive man and with five birds as well as a tortoise in his living room.

Buck turned around to see Tommy holding a bright blue cane. He was hunched over, a hand on his back, as he shuffled himself forward using the cane for support.
Buck rolled his eyes. “Oh my God!” he exclaimed. “You're not an old man, Tommy.”
“That's not what that kid said the other day.”
“'That kid' is our kid, Tom.”
