Kai’Sa's face is flushed a bright rosy pink as she stands up and gives me a soft smile. “Hi, Kali.” Even just her saying my name with such naked affection sends a shiver of sparks down my spine that I pretend are just chills.

Isabella Guzman is awful. A W F U L, all caps, and the sort of persistent, once-in-a-generation arch-nemesis that Mirabel Madrigal could never, not in a million years, find herself liking. To call themselves polar opposites would be downplaying their mutual animosity and years of conflict; like snakes and mongoose, cats and dogs, oil and water, the two were simply mutually exclusive, brought together only by the bonds between their two families.
