Someone else, someone unknown—someone who wasn’t Cody—felt like a betrayal. And picking that someone else felt like digging the knife further into the wound.

And then, even though they'd both been having their own internal debates throughout the entire interaction so far, and even though they were in fact drastically different people, Xiao and Venti had, in the same moment, the exact same thought:
“Oh, God. A roommate.”
In which Venti the witch tries his best to break Xiao's mysterious curse.
