Summary
BACKGROUND: After 18 years apart, Oliver and Elio reunited in the summer of 2005 during a cruise in the Aegean. Elio had been hired to perform classical music in the evenings, and Oliver gave lectures providing historical background for the sites the travelers were visiting.
Now together, Elio and Oliver live at the villa in Crema (not B) with Elio’s mother and his stepmother, Miranda, and his half-brother, Ollie. Mafalda is still with them. Oliver has a divided gig teaching classics at Milan and Bologna, and has found time to research and write. Elio’s reputation as a pianist continues to grow.As this story opens, in 2007, the director of the Achaean Cruise lines has hired them to reprise their jobs on a Nile River cruise that takes place during Oliver’s winter break from teaching.
There are a LOT of characters in this story, some only flitting through a few scenes; others take larger parts. Don’t worry if you don’t see someone more than once. There may be appearances by a few characters from “Random Luck of the Universe-Really?”. Please let me know if you need any clarification. I will respond to all questions in the comments.

Summary
This story follows the book universe (both CMBYN and Find Me) for the most part, with a few nods to things that happen in the film. So the date is 2005, 18 years after the summer of 1987. Elio is a concert pianist, living in Europe, and Oliver is an associate professor of Classical Studies at Columbia, in New York City. Oliver and Elio are estranged, having fallen out of contact after Elio’s visit to Oliver’s university three years previously. They meet once again on a cruise in the Aegean Sea. They also meet a number of other people—all original characters for this story—with whom they interact in a variety of ways. These individuals may be “minor” characters, but they are very important to Oliver and Elio.

Oliver has been living the life that has always been expected of him since he stepped foot back in New York- he'd gotten engaged, got a job as a professor at Columbia University on the fast track to becoming the department head in ten years, and had found a wonderful two bedroom apartment close to work- but he couldn't move on from his summer spent at the Perlman's villa a year ago. His life had become a mind numbing routine of work and delayed wedding plans until one afternoon, he'd received a call from Professor Samuel Perlman. It seems Elio has chosen his college and Oliver's life is about to get much more interesting.
