This was a mistake, a single deranged misfire of his usually iron self-control, and the last thing he should do is indulge it any further. He knows that.

The wood is soft around the knife as he carves in deeper, engraving letters into the old bridge. Richie fights back tears burning his eyes, focusing only on his task until the quiet voice inside him begins to rage.
"If he makes it, I’ll tell him. Please. Let him make it and I’ll tell him everything. I have to tell him everything. Fucking everything. Please just let him make it."
A somber mantra, pleading to a higher power he doesn’t even believe in.
Eddie is probably dying in surgery at the hospital across town and Richie can do nothing about it.

“That your wife wants you dead?” He asks, genuinely concerned. “I know it’s a lot-”
“Actually, that I believe,” Eddie interrupts. “But, come on, dude. What the hell is-” Eddie swallows nervously. “You can’t be a-” he laughs at the idea, “No fucking way in hell did Trashmouth grow up to be a hitman!”

Reaching for a candy bar, Eddie’s hand closed around something warm and wiry. Looking over slowly, all eight eyes of the spider met his gaze. Eddie screamed and threw the spider out the open passenger side window.
“No, no, fuck no!” Eddie rolled up the windows as though it might try to climb back in.
Taking a few deep breaths, Eddie met his own eyes in the rearview mirror.
“IT is dead and if IT wasn’t it would do a lot fucking worse than torment me with an immortal spider. It’s… it’s just trauma or something.”
The spider leapt out of his backseat roughly six hours later and he nearly caused a four car pile up with his swerving. Eventually he managed to trap it in an empty soda cup in a move that included spilling gummy worms across the seats and holding the wheel steady with his knee to free up his hand.
“I swear to god if you come out of that cup, I’ll throw you out of the car again. I don’t give a fuck if it’s littering. I’ll pay the fine.”
Eddie Kaspbrak wakes up in the collapsing sewers by himself, not nearly as dead as the other Losers thought him to be, not happy to find himself left behind, and not quite alone either. OR Eddie Kaspbrak and the spider that just won’t die.

Eddie would say as Richie emptied his pockets in the hammock they shared in the clubhouse. Richie always offering a treat to his friend despite the remarks. And most times Eddie would always take that offer. Fingertips brushing as they share the odd gumball or popping candy.
For Richie, it was never a wonder for his continued consumption of confections throughout his childhood.

The high levels of glucose syrup in the treats definitely weren’t the only sweet things he had his eyes on in those days.
—Richie’s sweet tooth gets him into dental trouble at Beverly’s birthday party. But he’s lucky to have a very kind Eddie to help him through it, as well as some other things he’s dealing with.

He touches his split lip, his shoulders tucked in on themselves. He’s always been small, but tonight, with black blood pouring down the front of his brightly-colored track and field suit and his shoulders hunched up like this, he looks impossibly smaller. He pulls his hand away from his mouth, and when he sees the blood on his middle three fingers, he grins.
Adrenaline was a foreign feeling up until ’89, when he was thirteen, and thirteen is a pivotal point in everyone’s life (right?), but it’s taken one, two, three, almost five years to get to the point where he can eat the adrenaline and turn it into something productive. Blood is impatient; it pushes itself out between his teeth, determined to be noticed, to be taken care of. But he’s not the one looking at the smile cracked across his face, blood red like a clown who got a little too excited about facepaint.
