Shouta padded down the shoreline. Cool sand stuck to his feet, the light of the stars danced on ink-black waves. It wasn’t logical to go to the ocean this late at night, lest he vanishes under the waves like others before him. But he craved the gentle static of water against sand, the soft rocking of the waves, the deep smell of salt. His day had been loud and long. People chattering like obnoxious birds, rough work clothes scratching his skin, the stink of other people; their cars, their food, themselves. It was all too much sometimes.
He needed this, as illogical as it was.
