Summary
‘You were there when she collapsed. I remember your faces when I carried her to her room, how terrible it was. Holding Mary in my arms, looking down at her, she was so fragile and – ’ Suddenly, Tom took off his spectacles and wiped his hand furiously across his eyes. ‘Forgive me.’ More quietly, he repeated in an altered tone. ‘Forgive me, please.’
There had been times in the past two months when Tom’s inexplicable disappearance had disappointed her. But her heart ached for him now, for all he had said and what he had not, the suffering which was so palpable and the diffidence which had been so grotesquely exploited.

Tom Hayward has been gone two months since the Lakes. Unexpectedly one afternoon, he returns.

Summary
Thomas Hayward recognized a few universal truths about life. One, that a single man who was not in possession of a good fortune must work for everything he has. Two, that love was not something that people merely acquired without equal amounts of hard work and finally, that you always wanted Mrs. Gardiner on your side.

Bookmarker's Notes
How lovely to see this all from Tom's pov - and what a messy, broiling muddle of emotions! No wonder he's in danger of exploding.
I really like your characterisation of Ann and thought the scene between them was just great. I originally thought the love triangle thing was a terrible cliché when they introduced it in the show, but I liked the role Ann played as Mary's friend and support so much. You've addressed them and how they can still care and want the best for each other even though any romantic inclinations have fizzled out so deftly.

Summary
The ball soared over the net and Jaime did not even try to return it. Brienne had put more force behind her serve than some professional men, and he knew at once that his wrist would buckle if he attempted it.
“One, love,” Renly called.
Jaime bit back a frown. “That’s not a score, you imbecile.”
“But I thought you don’t say zero in tennis?”
Brienne, kinder as ever, corrected him. “You don’t. But you don’t say one either.”
“A pity,” Renly said. “It sounded cute.” He looked from Jaime to Brienne with a knowing smile. “Although, to be fair, she could do better.”

Summary
There were three things Mary knew about love.
It was something you earned, not something freely given.
It was often louder for others than it ever was for her.
And it was completely unattainable for Mary Bennet.-

Summary
"For an educated woman, raised to be genteel, as we have been, the future holds no other prospect than marriage. Marriage or Misery" Mary could not help but recall Charlotte's warning as she saw the last of her sisters leave home with her husband. The future now bleak with no prospects and trapped in the miserable marriage of her parents, Mary knew she needed a husband, one who may not love her but might be agreeable enough to let her escape her family and allowed her to live in peace.
