Summary
Scar was more familiar than most with the Boogeyman Curse. He didn’t know if it was a sign of the Whispers liking him or despising him, but far too often the role had fallen on him. He’d been compelled to kill so many times by then that he couldn’t even feel the rush of bloodlust overtaking his mind anymore; all he’d been left with was cold, hard dread rolling around in his stomach.
If he failed, he’d be left with only his very last life. And, for as loyal as they were, he doubted that his teammates would keep him around then. Etho and Scott were both survivors at their core; they valued self-preservation greatly. Bdubs didn’t. Not as much. But he always stuck by Etho’s side. Those two were always each other’s first and foremost, even when it wasn’t official.
So he couldn’t fail.
There would be no point to him sticking around if he were once more pushed out, abandoned, alone. He’d had enough of sunflower fields and endless tasks that he couldn’t complete any longer. He dreaded the sight of that symbol, that broken portal, staring down at him without eyes and yet with a gaze full of judgment and expectations. He’d performed for that dang statue long enough.
