For some reason it was getting to him this year. He hadn’t changed his mind about the day being stupid, but he and Cas had both been busy with work and the kids recently, and they hadn’t exactly had much time to themselves. Dean couldn’t remember the last time he’d been able to properly kiss his husband beyond a quick peck in passing, and they hadn’t had time to go on any dates or even cuddle up watching a film without kids throwing popcorn and arguing over the volume levels in months. He wasn’t bothered by it… but maybe there was a part of his mind asking that if they couldn’t even be romantic on Valentine's day then… then maybe everyone else was right. Maybe the people telling them that they’d leave the honeymoon phase one day were correct, and maybe their romance really was dead.
So here he was, baking a pie and pretending it was just like any other pie he made during the year. Pretending that the flowers and the boxes of chocolate in the stores weren’t sending something achingly like longing through him, and pretending he wasn’t missing his husband when he was right there.

As Dean walked past, he put his hand up for a high five. Seeing that it was—shockingly—directed to him, Cas raised his hand and gave Dean's a slap. No one denied Dean Winchester a high five. No one in their year anyway.
Before he could pull his hand away, Dean laced their fingers and said with a shit eating grin "You're now my boyfriend. Congratulations. Love you Babe."
Cas just stared shocked—and slightly confused and a tiny bit afraid—as Dean pulled his hand away and walked off. That was definitely not how it normally went when Dean was handing out high fives.

Castiel's senior year of swimming is going to be his best yet. He's got two State records on the line, one of which is his own. He has no patience for distractions, and he will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
If only someone had told that to Dean Winchester, the new boy with the beautiful smile and the unfortunate need to become friends with everyone, including Castiel. Castiel's immediate dislike of him isn't helped by the fact that Dean is good at the one stroke that Castiel is the best at: the butterfly.
He's determined to hate Dean, especially when the other boy poses a serious threat to Castiel's record pursuit. If only Dean wasn't so damn adorable...

Summary
Dean’s a Sentinel who is perfectly fine not having a Guide, no matter what Sam says. But when he meets Sam’s friend Castiel, he discovers not only a compatible Guide but a friend he’s desperate to keep.
Dean needs to make it through his Ph.D. in one piece, and that means keeping a lid on his Sentinel abilities that threaten to run wild unless he keeps them under control. Dean’s methods of control are dubious at best, but Castiel is compelled to use his own skills as a Guide to help Dean deal with his abilities, even if Dean doesn’t think he deserves the help.
