Arthur felt something colder than even the air about him, strike him in the chest. “I'm gonna what?”

John doesn’t understand, but he nods anyway. Another breeze blows through the air, and he shivers without meaning to. The ground is ice-cold against his bare feet. It’s fine, though--he’s used to it.
Suddenly there’s a warm weight on his head, and he reaches up to feel leather and rope. It’s a hat, worn and soft with age. He looks at Arthur, whose head is now uncovered.
“Keep it for the night, kid,” he says. There’s a faint smile on his face. “That little mop of hair ain’t gonna keep you warm.”

He’s steadily making his way through a packet of red vines and complaining about the last terrible movie Mike made him watch when Eddie comes barrelling in. The first abnormal thing Dustin notices is that Eddie barely gives him more than a wave of acknowledgment, clearly a man on a mission. And Dustin doesn’t even have time to be offended before Eddie starts his tirade. Rude.

***Dutch’s dark eyes lost their usual touch of calmness as he walked forward to stand next to him. “You don’t want to do this, John. You left the gang once already. Do you believe defying me is that way to do things? Do you really think these fine folk will stand by you? A lot of people here don’t know who you are.”
“Then they’re ‘bout to find out,” John retorted. “I ain’t sitting by while Arthur’s out there, likely hurt or worse. He’s family. Thought that meant something to you once.”

Summary
The late afternoon sun cast long shadows as the pilgrims made camp beside a bubbling stream, the water dancing over smooth stones worn by countless years of patient flow. Tang Sanzang dismounted gracefully from the White Dragon Horse, his pristine white robes somehow untouched by the dust of the road despite their long day's journey through the mountainous terrain. The horse snorted softly and lowered his elegant head to drink, his transformation from prince to steed still miraculous to behold, though the pilgrims had long grown accustomed to such wonders.
Behind the monk, his three disciples stretched and complained in their usual fashion, each expressing their weariness in characteristically different ways. The setting was peaceful enough—wildflowers dotted the meadow around them, birds called from the nearby forest, and the air carried the sweet scent of pine and jasmine. It should have been a moment of tranquil rest, but tranquility was rarely possible when Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing were involved.
