But, some are better than others and there are some things that are meant to happen. So when one of those things are removed, the time line must either continue and happen or fall apart.
The self correction of a timeline can be a beautiful thing, or a deadly vice. It depends on your choices, your goals, and exactly what is missing.

Meanwhile, the children stumble through the underground, eventually making their way into Snowdin. Finally, unable to move forward, they are taken in by the community, in particular one well-known bartinder... Um, I mean, bartender.

The boy was silent and sank further into the couch until he couldn't see The Monster anymore over Sans' form. Eventually, he heard the intermittent sounds of pages flipping. Papyrus listened to the sounds of The Monster reading his book and the gentle crackle of the fire in the hearth and nudged himself closer to his brother, before stealing a corner of the blanket for himself.

Undertale is a popular video game, but it knows when it's being played. Five of its characters can remember the way the world used to be, even after the game itself resets, but until now they have been unable to affect the outcome for the better. As such, this game has never once gotten its happy ending and, as such, is adapting. Two wrongs make only a greater wrong, after all.
This is No Mercy Route Number Ninety, and five alone will have to change the course of the game, before the game changes them.
