Across Time: A Zelink Timeline Project — Twilight Princess

Zelda and Link have been keeping each other at arm’s length, cautious of the scars left behind by the Twilight—but perhaps a cat, a sudden injury, and some brutal honesty will help them understand what they’ve lost and what they might still find.

As I've already mentioned, what I find so charming about the TP Zelink relationship is the endless possibilities that can be explored in how the two characters connect; in how each one deals with their pain, and how, in the end, that pain is shared between them.

Rereading this story brings back fond memories of seeing them for the first time and thinking, "These two really have a lot to tell." Of course, I can't help but highlight Zelda's words: "You don't need to be a hero anymore," it's so touching it brought tears to my eyes.

TP Zelink will always be one of my favorite Zelink couples.

“Zelda’s voice cuts across the air, his name sweet and familiar on her tongue, and he looks up so quickly strands of sandy blonde hair fly across his face.

Ilia hides a knowing smile, and the hues of twilight ebb to dusk.”

Another sweet and subtle TP Zelink story, demonstrating something I've come to think about (and perhaps a possible headcanon): that among all the Zeldas, she is the coldest in releasing her emotions in a natural way, without formalities given her position. I find myself thinking about how difficult it must be to elicit a genuine smile or a sincere expression from TP Zelda — it's not like Zelda OOT who, even with her formality, still expresses her feelings clearly.

That's why stories that break through that hard shell of TP Zelda are incredible, especially when the one responsible for it is Link (since they are kind of opposites). It's like the famous saying goes: opposites attract.

Zelda’s parting words were still ringing in Link’s ears, harmonizing with the shimmery tones of Navi as she gracefully fluttered up to the rafters of the Temple of Time. It was truly over. His time as the Hero of Hyrule had come and gone.

"I did this for you", it's interesting to think that this was actually a line from Link in the OOT manga at the moment when Zelda is about to send him to the past. This makes me believe that, no matter if it's the past, present, or future; no matter if it's a different timeline, if he has the opportunity to say this to Zelda, Link will say it. This ZeLink thing is a sensitive topic, with so many sad and happy interpretations, and that's what makes me love them more and more.

She still disarmed him when she looked like this: chin propped up on her hand, dark hair spilling loose over the knitted shawl around her shoulders. By nature and necessity, Zelda guarded so much from the world. That she allowed him to see her tousled and unadorned still felt like a miracle, returning every time with all the glory of a sunrise.

That's what TP Zelink is made of! Two souls wounded by an invasion that took something precious from them, but over time, the wounds healed, the two grew closer, got to know each other better, until that eventually turned into love. That's exactly what fascinates me about TP, the varied possibilities of thinking about how Zelda and Link grew closer.

I must say that, in the manga, their relationship is also very rewarding to watch. My favorite scene is when Link is concerned about showing his dirty face to Zelda after the battle against Ganondorf. Oh my— I really love this couple.

    Summary

Something flickered between Link and Zelda in the aftermath of the Spring of Power.

Neither of them spoke of what transpired. How Link had heard Zelda’s breaking point, how she had cursed the goddess – actually cursed her – for refusing to answer her prayers. She hadn’t realized he had turned from his post until he was wading toward her, his boots sloshing in the water and his pants soaking up to his knees. His eyes had not torn from hers. She had not spoken a word.

Instead, he had simply held out his arms, and she had fallen into them.

With each Breath of the Wild story I read, I'm absolutely certain that everyone shares the same thought: that calm and determined Link demonstrated the opposite of what many showed Zelda. She's not to blame for not being able to awaken her powers; she was never to blame for anything, in reality.

Just like ALTTP, I feel this ZeLink brings the same sweetness and calmness as its previous "incarnation." They are ready for anything that comes their way, ready to comfort each other, to care for each other when the other is hurt (physically and/or emotionally). Oh, and for the first time reading, I felt the famous 'butterflies in my stomach.' That was thrilling to read!
