This room is different from the rest of the Halls of the Corrodi Primarch; it is obvious from a single glance. With a delicate elegance that looks so alien in the iron-wrought wasteland of Zern, so senselessly pretty in a way that betrays the solidity of her council, entering it feels as though stepping into another world — neither Zern nor Zood, nor even Gath; someplace else entirely, a world of her own.
A fairytale, perhaps — she remembers those from long ago, stories of whimsy, filled with hope. A clockwork, mechanical fairytale; though the details elude her, the story of the sleeping princess surfaces into the shallows of Ludmila's memories.
There, the centrepiece of the room. A sight Ludmila sees so very little, yet one that is etched into the whirring machinery of her mechanical mind. Firelight streaks through arched windows, refracting off polished edges. Carved from polished brass, covered with a crystalline lid, is a glass coffin.
Laying within it, hands resting on her chest, is Marya Junková.
(Or: Marya falls into Zern earlier than canon.)

“You-” Ygraine said, stepping up to point a finger in Uther’s face. “You are a liar and a murderer. The fact you think someone as sweet and caring as Vivienne is destined to marry you is a tragedy in itself, but if you expect me to hand over my brother’s rightful claim to Camelot’s throne-”
“My claim to Camelot’s throne,” Uther threw back, face growing more red as Arthur looked between his parents in utter bewilderment. Merlin didn’t blame him. He had envisioned Uther and Ygraine’s love story to be more… well, less based in war and battles.
Ygraine’s eyes narrowed as she grabbed a goblet of wine and threw it in Uther’s face. A few of the guards shifted, but Uther only raised a hand to pause them, spitting out the wine with furious eyes.
“You,” Ygraine said coldly. “Are unworthy to sit upon a stool, let alone a throne.”
From a few feet away, Balinor scoffed as he sipped from his own goblet. “I kind of like having her as a hostage, Uther. She livens up the place.”

The Duchess Approves is terrible. He wants to bleach every brick of his body just to purify himself of this three hour experience. He wants to pluck out his eyeball and treat it to a ten-day spa as reparations. He demands a sequel from the Axolotl during their next therapy session.
The Axolotl tilts their head. “There's no sequel. Only one movie has ever been made.”
Bill glowers. “But what happens after?”
“Production went into debt after casting big name Grampton St. Rumpterfrabble,” the Axolotl answers sadly. “Rumor has it he charges fifty thousand per letter.”
“Wonderful,” Bill drawls. “Real useful information. So what am I supposed to do now, doc?”
The Axolotl’s eyes gleam suspiciously. “I suppose there’s always fanfiction.”
Or: Bill hates a certain fanfic author almost as much as he hates the man who killed him. Crazy, wouldn't it be, if the two were the same person.

András Zacher’s designs scream, wail, ache about the thick glass walls keeping him from the world, about how he sees society and yet doesn’t find himself in it.
I, on the other hand, fit in perfectly.
Milan Fashion Week, 2005(ish): Raffaele Scalise finds inspiration. Then he loses himself, loses inspiration, and finds himself. All in the space of a few months.

Lacie didn’t recognise her place in the melody's last cadence. In how, after Oswald had shortly taken over with a weirdly soothing tremolo, Jack's chords turned to birdsong—those loud cries of swifts in late spring, scared and seeking. Oswald answered with an inquiring glissando, and it only took a single beat for the men to start playing the same hopeful tune on different octaves, their hands seeking to meet in the middle.
It wasn't for her to hear anymore, Lacie knew, but her eyes watered at the beautiful refrain all the same. She did not dare humming along.
Jack and Oswald play a song, Lacie stumbles across her birthday present a bit too early.
